I think the hardest thing a human being has to do is listen to other people and not just yourself. Perhaps we're all born innately, to only listen to ourselves and it's unnatural to accept what other people say, especially when it's negative. This is no exception to my parents.
Maybe it's also a parent thing. Once you're a parent, you assume that you have all rights to listen to yourself and ignore what other people say. But you know what I call that? Narcissism. If anything shouldn't parents listen more to their children and other people rather than just themselves? When their child tells them that they don't feel appreciated, don't feel loved, shouldn't parents listen and help them? Rather than stand back and laugh as their child falls to the ground. Literally.
I was so pissed, my body was trembling and my legs felt wobbly. I couldn't stand anymore and I had to lie down. But you know what my parents did? Nothing. My father sat proudly in his chair and laughed at my pathetic state.
                              "You see, too much kdrama."
Was all he could say between laughs. He scoffed at me and made fun of me. What kind of parent does that? Right just my father.
Not only do they not listen to me, they interrupt me, when I'm telling them that they don't listen to me, to say that they do. If they're always so focused on correcting me, denying everything I say, are they really listening at all?
