27: Decepticon Games

Caelyn's POV:

"Ratchet, what's wrong?" Optimus asks.

"Someone's going to the base, we are some meters behind them... but I can't tell if they're bots or cons" Ratchet answers.

Suddenly someone starts shooting at us. I look to the place the shots are coming and find someone standing on a tree. Then, that someone starts... flying?!!
The something-someone enters to the base and keeps shooting at us as he flies.

"Laserbeak, you stupid flying scrap!!" Hide growls. Trying to shoot him down.

I take my gun from the backpack and hang the strap through my shoulder.
Hide hits the wing.
I hit the tail. mmm.... not the best shot but hey, that thing moves fast!

Bee grabs me and runs to the entrance where he leaves me on the floor.
He just looks at me as he points at the forest.

I look that direction and back at him.

"You want me to run?! No way! I...-"

"Let's play hide and seek" he says as he changes to different stations.

For some reason that phrase makes my heart skip a beat. Can't believe what he's saying...

"Wait..-"

"If you don't obey you can be sure I'll lock you underground!!" Hide shouts from inside the base.

"Three shots to the sky" Bee continues "I've finished counting"
He nods once and then, without letting me say anything, he pushes me towards the forest.

I look back.

"One!!"

I turn and start running. What are you doing Caelyn?!?!
I grab my gun like it was the only thing I can hold on to.
Hide and seek...
Hide and seek..

I hide.

But who's the seeker?

I stop running and lean against a tree. Panting. Shaking. Quite dizzy.
Everything's happening so fast...

How long have I been running? How far am I? It mustn't be that far... right?

I take my time to catch my breath.
At every little sound I hear I paralyse myself and grab the gun harder, ready to shoot.

Three shots. You just have to wait.

Wait. In some situations that word is a torture.

'Lets play hide and seek'

Hide and seek...

He wanted me to hide.
He wanted me to hide because.. were the cons looking for me?
He thought they were... or they are...
He wanted me to hide because he knew they would look for me. They will look for me.

Hide and seek.

He's not the one who's going to seek.
He's going to count.
Count until it's safe.
Count until I can stop hiding.
If I don't come out, that's when he'd become the seeker.
But for now... they are the seekers.
The Decepticons are the seekers.

And I am their prey.

Sound of wings.
Metal wings.

Steps.
Metal steps.

And wheels.
Behind me.

My heart bumping so hard I'm afraid they'll hear it through my chest.

'Well, hide and seek: for now, you hide somewhere and I count to... 30...'

A cave! There's a cave straight ahead!
No! Bad idea! Cave means no way out, no way out means they'll catch me and if they catch me that would mean I'll probably be dead. So no cave!

I run to the side of the mount of rocks and stop. Look both sides. There's a little space between two rocks, the only way they could see me is from above. I turn.
Those rocks are now behind me.

Right side: there aren't many trees to hide now.

Left side: Them.

The front: it would be like doing the same I've been doing. Run. Hide with the trees. Listen. Wait. Run again.

Leaves. I need leaves. And quickly.

'While I count you go and hide...'

A bush.
I grab a bush and place it on top of those two rocks.
There are other plants on top of the rocks so hopefully they won't notice it.... hopefully..

'And when I finish I'll go and search for you...'

I start hearing their steps.
I run to get between the rocks and kneel down with one knee on the floor so I can catch my breath and if I have to run I'll be able to.

A deep terrifying voice rips the silence away.

"Where are you human?"
Soundwave.

'And even though I make those silly questions like "where are youu?"....'

"You know I'll find you..." He says.
I hold my breath.

'You don't have to get out of your hiding place...'

I Close my eyes.
The sound of the wings is coming.

'Just don't go too far...'

If I hear three cannon shots... oh please no... or maybe yes!
He'll be the seeker...

'You have the forest so it will not be that complicated....'

At every step I hear how he gets closer.

"Oh, is this some type of human game?"

As I listen both Soundwave and Laserbeak, all the ways my hiding place could be discovered come to my mind.
The things that might be obvious.
The ways this could go wrong.

But what terrifies me the most is certain thought...

That they already know where I am... and they're just playing with me...

'So, I'll search for you'

Suddenly everything goes silent.
No metal steps.

No wings flying.

Nothing...

I stop breathing...

"Got 'ya"
