The party was held in a private Banquet Hall of a newly opened restaurant. Angelina took in the full grand view of the place. Wow!! It was so beautifully decorated with flowers and lights!!!
She stepped in. Her colleagues were happily chatting and drinking. She took off her coat and hung it on the stand.
The first thing she searched for was the snacks corner as soon as she went in. Sure enough, there was way too many snack options to choose from. She was never very comfortable about chatting with people. She always preferred to stay her calm and quotes bubble. She was deciding on where to start from when she saw Aaron walking in with a beautiful lady as his companion. They looked... happy together.
Angelina looked at herself and then at Aaron's partner. They sure were from different worlds. Angelina was absolutely certain that her whole look was cheaper than the lady's heels.
Aaron spotted Angelina near the snacks counter. She was looking absolutely stunning in that black gown. Her cherry red lips, the beach waves in her hair and that gorgeous black gown made her even more alluring. She was glowing. Aaron excused himself from his partner and walked towards Angelina.
Her jaws clenched when she saw Aaron walking towards her with two glasses of red wine in his hands.
"Here" he handed over one of the glasses to her, "You look stunning tonight!"
"Thanks but I bet you say this to every woman who you come across." Angelina clinked her glass with his and took a sip.
"Stop blaming me for everything. It was you who decided to break up with me."
"You definitely taught me how to make smart choices."
"You are same as before, always blaming others to cover up your insecurities. I wonder how did you manage to get a boyfriend with all your issues?"
He smiled. He knew her soft points too well. He knew where it hurts the most, knew how to open up her wounds. She indeed made a mistake, a mistake of trusting him.
"It was you who didn't want to get intimate with me. It was you who never wanted to satisfy my physical desires. If you did, that bitch wouldn't have come between us because I am a perfectly normal human being with needs and I need to satisfy it." Aaron continued like the asshole he was.
Angelina was surprised at how he could pronounce every single word so calmly, without any hesitation. Yet every one of his words has successfully opened up her wounds.
She felt her a tingling sensation in her nostrils. She knew if she continued speaking with him he would know that he could still effect her.
She excused herself when she saw that beauty walking towards them. She went towards the washroom, tears threatening to roll down her cheeks, when Pete stopped her.
" Why are you here?" She asked surprised.
"Maybe, because I own this place?"
Angelina was so relieved to see him. She badly needed a shoulder to lean on.
Pete was stunned when she stepped forward and rested her forehead on his chest.
"What's wrong?"
Angelina had used up all her strengths in preventing her from breaking down completely. But when she heard Pete's soft caring voice she lost all her controls and started crying.
"Let's go somewhere else and talk." he said draping an arm around her, hiding her face from the world.
Pete took her to the rooftop and sat on a bench. "Now, you can say what exactly happened."
Angelina shared almost everything that happened downstairs, about how Aaron has insulted her . The more she said, the more she felt painful. She was crying to the point where she couldn't breathe properly.
He wanted to ask, "what issues" so badly but restrained himself from following suit. He was clearly observing that aftermath of Aaron's words. He didn't want to open up her wounds furthermore.
She was slightly shivering. He couldn't figure out whether it was from all those crying or from cold. Still, he opened his coat and wrapped her in it. She unknowingly leaned into his embrace.
They do not know for how long they sat there. No one talked. Angelina was crying her heart out, and he was there sitting with her, sharing the moment and lending her his shoulder, waiting for her to stop crying. He felt utterly helpless at not being able to help her. Pete couldn't gulp down that painful lump in his throat.
He had this sudden urge to kill the douche-bag who has hurt Angelina to this extent. He didn't know every single detail but he atleast knew Aaron cheated on her. And she must have been in deep love with him since she couldn't forget the betrayal in all these years.
A soft snore escaped her lips reaching his ears. Pete looked down and saw Angelina sleeping on his shoulder. Her red lips were slightly parted. He could feel his shirt was wet from her tears.
He never felt such strong urge to kiss someone ever before. He slowly lifted up her chin with his finger. Her face was tear stained, ghastly black liquid flowing from her eyes to her jaw and even down. He took out his handkerchief and wiped away her tears. She was sleeping without a single worry in the world.
"This girl will be the death of me."
