"Aunty, how is my mother?"

Angelina doesn't know how she dashed inside the hospital and reached the emergency ward. Her mother's friend was sitting there.

"Aunty, how is my mother?" It was the first thing that she asked.

"Doctor didn't say anything. They are still inside."

"What happened to her?" This time Sam was the one asking the question.

"I don't know how that happened. But she carried a heated cast iron vessel with hot oil in it with her bare hands. I don't even know how she didn't feel the pain. Her hands are burnt. Angelina, I am sorry for not noticing her doing such a stupid thing."

The door opened and doctor came out.

"Doctor, how is my mother?"

"I have applied medicine and bandaged her palms. But I think this case is much more serious than it appears. Please follow me to my office."

Angelina and Pete followed the doctor in. While Sam and David went to visit Mrs. Ray.

"Aunty!! Didn't I tell you to take care? Look what you have done to yourself!" Sam complained.

"I'm alright, see, just my hands are injured."

"Why did you carry such a hot vessel with bare hands? What if something more dangerous had happened?"

"I am really alright sweetheart." Mrs. Ray said smiling, "eh! By the way who is this child?"

"He? Hehe, he is my boyfriend, David."

"Such a good news and you are telling me now? It's good that I got admitted in hospital. Atleast I got to meet him. "

David smiled scratching his nose.

In doctor's chamber

"The patient can't feel pain. Specially in her hands. I wonder how she survived so long . I suggest an MRI. Her palms will recover in no time. But as I said, this case could be more serious than it seems."

"Doctor, just do whatever is needed. Don't worry about money. I just want my mother to get fit as soon as possible."

The doctor then prescribed some medicines and explained how to use them. They thanked him and walked out.

Pete followed Angelina in Mrs. Ray's chamber. Angelina took her Bandaged hands in her own and said, "You aren't allowed to stay alone from this point onwards. And I won't take 'no' for an answer. "

"Okay okay okay. I will stay with you, happy?"

"And you need to follow everything I say."

"Eh! Who is the mother here?" Mrs. Ray joked.

"Don't joke. Did you know how afraid I was in the whole way back ? What if something more dangerous happened to you? What if..." Angelina couldn't control herself more. She burst out in tears. "You are my only family. What would I do without you?"

Her heart dropped seeing her daughter crying infront. "I am sorry. I should have taken better care of myself."

"I will take care of you from now on."

"I will too." Pete spoke after a long time.

Angelina looked towards him. His face was radiating gentleness. She wiped away tears and blinked a few times.

"Errr.. Maa. Ahem.. I and Pete.. umm.. Pete is my boyfriend."

Mrs. Ray made a "Hah! I knew it!" face.

A nurse entered and said Mrs. Ray needs to be taken for MRI.

Sam and David went back to home. Pete decided to stay with her. Mrs. Ray needs to stay hospitalised for a few days, atleast until the MRI report doesn't point towards something critical.

They were sitting outside her mother's cabin. It was almost 11 pm.

She said to Pete, "You should go home and get some rest. You drove a long way."

"How can I leave you alone here?"

"Pete. Listen to me, I can manage the night. I don't have office tomorrow as well. But you will be having a busy day at your restaurant. You need to take proper rest. This will be the first festive season for your place, right?"

"But..."

"No buts. Just go home now. And moreover you can bring us some good breakfast tomorrow morning. My mom doesn't really like hospital food."

Pete thought for a bit and then agreed to the suggestion. But he still worried about some unforeseen incident taking place during the night. So he asked for the last time, "Are you sure you can manage this?"

"Stop worrying. I will be fine."

Pete gave her a side hug before leaving.

The night went by smoothly without much happening. She just had to take her mother once to toilet. Rest of the time she spent drowzing.
