She tried changing position in her sleep, half conscious. "Why does my bed feel small?" she opened her left eye slightly. She couldn't figure out what was happening. After a bit of internal discussion about whether to open her eyes or go back to sleep, she was about to return back to what she was doing earlier, when her bed suddenly shifted beneath her head.

She was wide eyed now. She realised she was laying on Pete's lap. His chin was almost touching his chest.

"Gosh, how could I fall asleep here?" she covered her face with both hands, " no, I must go home now."

"Pete" she called slowly tapping on his shoulders. "Pete, wake up" this time she wasn't so gentle. She shook his torso grabbing his arms with both hands, forcing him to retract his feet from dreamland.

He looked up and saw Angelina's face hovering over his. "You are awake? Let's go home," he said in his sleepy voice.

I never knew a voice could be this sexy. It almost turned me on.

They waited by the roadside for so long. No cab was ready to go to the locality Angelina lived in. They got refused by four cabs.

"How about you come with me to my apartment?" Pete suggested.

"Okay. There's nothing else we could do now."

"I don't think I can sleep in Sam's bed"
Both Angelina and Pete were peeping into Sam's room through a slight gap in the door. Sam's legs were up on the headboard, and she was sleeping diagonally leaving no space for Angelina to fit in.

"I think you are making sense" his voice came from above her head.
She tilted her head back and looked at Pete. They both nodded at each other and slowly closed the door back.

They came back to the living area. It was 3 am. "You can sleep in my room. I will sleep here on the sofa."

"I have already caused you so much inconvenience today. Let me sleep on the sofa," Angelina said.

"Don't overthink. Feel free to use my bed. Eeerrr, for tonight."

************************************
"Why are you sleeping on the sofa?" Sam poked her brother.

"Because of your graceful sleeping posture. Let me sleep now." Pete covered his face visibly annoyed, with his blanket.

"Jelly????? Why are you coming out of his room?" Sam asked pointing at her brother.

"Good morning." Angelina walked towards the chair and plopped out. Her hairs were a complete mess, she sported a trail of dry drool stretched from the corner of her lips to her soft jawline. Sam was speechless. Not only did Jelly not answer to her query, but also she had started dozing off again.

In the next moment, Angelina sat up straight. She covered up her mouth with a palm and inhaled a sharp breath. It was her mother's birthday.

"Are you drunk?" Sam brought her face close to Jelly's shoulder and sniffed.

"You don't smell like booze.... Did you hit your head somewhere?"

"Sam. Today is my mom's birthday!"

Sam whinned "We forgot to plan for surprise birthday celebration."

"We will need a gift, and cake atleast. Oh, I should also inform my office about my absence." Angelina went out to call.

"Where does her mother live?" Pete was trying hard to open both his eyes.
"I can arrange for the cake," he said in his sleepy voice.

"She lives in village M. It will take us 2 hours roughly to reach there."

Angelina returned to the room and said, " Thankfully, I got my leave approved at such short notice or I wouldn't know what to do!"

"Then both of you should prepare the gift while I am arranging the cake" Pete said.

The trio set out for their destination. Village M was situated near the sea-shore. The farther they went from the city, the clearer the sky appeared.

Sam took in a deep breath "Ah, it's so refreshing to finally be able to get out of the hustle and bustle of city life."

"I miss home," words left Angelina's mouth almost like a whisper.

Pete was driving the car. He felt like he was on a much deserved family vacation. When he was small, his parents used to take him to the sea. He remembered playing in the sand with his dad, and collecting sea-shells with his mom. This was his first time after his mother's death visiting the beach.

When they finally reached her house, Angelina saw her mother at the front yard. She was feeding their pet "Cuddly". The beagle sensed Angelina's presence, she left food and ran towards her wagging it's little tail. Angelina picked her up and saw Mrs. Ray smiling at her.

Before Angelina could even wish her mother, Sam dashed forward. Mrs. Ray was very fond of Sam. She hugged her, "you have become even prettier" Sam said.

"Silly child" Mrs. Ray chuckled.

"Happy birthday maa" Angelina went forward and hugged her as well.

"Happy birthday, aunty" Pete presented her with a bottle of  Pinot Noir.

A knowing smile graced Mrs. Ray's face. "This is the first time Angelina brought a guy home with her. Welcome home, children."
