"They missed one. One single Omega metroid escaped the previous genocide and had since evolved into a queen and caused all of the situations leading up to this moment" those were the words that went through Samus's head as she explored beyond the laboratory and found herself in a series of empty interconnecting caverns. Not a single trace of life could be found in these caves! A heavy feeling of dread and ominous tension crept up her spine as she explored further and further down. Eventually she came to an open area that extended up for about two miles. On a ledge far above she spotted a dozen skeletons. They were infact chozo skeletons!
"You and your group faced the end bravely De'La"
Samus screw attacked upwards, the kinetic energy that swirled around her echoed through out the cavern and was the only hint toward any life at all down here. It was eerily silent . Eventually she reached the highest ledge and blasted apart rubble blocking the way forward. She was getting closer to the queen, the rising anxiety and unsettledness inside her was convincing of this fact. She went into morph ball and rolled through a gap under the rocks for what seemed like ages before coming to a dead end and falling as the ground crumbled away beneath her.
She landed in a large dark cave where only the varia suit lit up the surrounding area. She walked forward a few feet and noticed cracked shells on the ground. They were metroid eggs! Eggs that had hatched long long ago. A thud came from the distance and was quickly followed by another. Cracking echoed throughout the cave as something massive crushed the shattered egg shells on the ground. Samus switched to her thermal visor right as a huge creature came pounding toward her ! She did not have to time to think about it and she was quickly forced to back flip into the air as two enormous jaws reached out of the darkness to consume her! She landed and prepared a charge shot as the towering behemoth made its way toward her. The varia suit partially illuminated it but she would need to scan it to fully see the body of the monster.
"Morphology: Metroid Queen. the final evolution of the metroid species and supreme life form on SR388, the queen metroid stands 25 feet tall and on all fours! It's tough flesh is immune to most forms of attacks and it's stomach is too well protected to attack directly . Holes on the back can generate crystals that will create a natural protective energy field around the queen. Her main form of attack is to breathe fire but she can also jump and attempt to kick victims."
"And so this is what it has all been leading to, the final battle!"
Over the roar of the queen shattering could be heard from all corners as previously unhatched metroid eggs now hatched and the larvae rallied to the aid of their mother. There was now 8 larval metroids to deal with! a metroid grabbed onto the top of Samus's head and began draining her energy. She dislodged it with a bomb and then jumped backwards and froze two metroids that came at her. After blowing them up with missiles she then tried to freeze the others but they flew out of the way. This new annihilator beam had made fighting so much easy! All 6 metroids came at her from all sides and she spun 360 degrees and hit every single one of them with one shot each. Spinning again they were all simultaneously blown to pieces with missiles.
Samus turned her attention back to the queen right as she roared and Stamped her feet. 7 violet crystals burst out of her back and a purple glow surrounded her entire body . Samus tried shooting her but the barrier absorbed all shots and missiles. The queen swung her head at Samus and fire blazed forth from her mouth, Samus side flipped over the flames but was sent sprawling across the ground when the queen swiped at her with one of her legs. She boosted around the queen and emerged from morph ball with a super missile at the ready. The super missile destroyed one of the crystals and before the queen could turn , another five super missiles destroyed the rest of the crystals leaving only one untouched!. Samus shinesparked over the queen's back as she turned around, and destroyed the last crystal . The queen roared as her protective barrier was now gone. Samus shot multiple missiles at her neck but the queen twisted her neck enough so that her head was facing Samus . She spat a fireball which impacted the wall and blew it apart. Samus ducked as debris rained on her . Turning around she could now see that the destruction of the wall had now revealed a long hallway behind. She turned and started to speed boost down the hallway as the queen began to charge after her. Each pounding footstep making the ground rumble. Samus shinesparked through some bushes at the end and skidded to a stop in a small round isolated room. She was cornered!.
She turned as the queen lept into the air and slammed onto the ground with such force that Samus fell to her knees. The impact caused the cave floor to crack and suddenly break! The two of them fell through the floor and down into another isolated room several meters below. The queen hit the ground and remained on her side as Samus crashed straight down beside her! After pausing for a few seconds Samus quickly took advantage of the situation and rained shot after shot and missile after missiles down upon the queens vulnerable stomach. The queen roared and managed to push herself over back onto her feet. She raised her head and opened her mouth but Samus latched onto one of her teeth with the grapple beam and pulled herself upward into her mouth. Turning into morph ball she quickly rolled down the queen's throat and into her stomach, taking massive amounts of damage from various acidic bodily fluids . Upon reaching the center of the stomach she dropped a power bomb and moments later the queen screamed as the explosion ripped through her and engulfed the entire cave!
As the smoke cleared Samus Aran slowly rose to her feet triumphantly. Burning chunks of flesh lay around her and she was covered in pink blood and various other substances that slowly burned her, but it didn't matter. She quickly climbed over some of the flesh piles and fell on her back. The last of the metroids was no more! The species was officially extinct! After taking a quick rest she got to her feet once more and looked for a way out, the only way was up. She could now leave this wretched planet and was now free to do whatever she wanted. Redemption had once again been granted!
- Making her way through the back of the Queen's cave Samus noticed something out of the corner of her eye. She stepped closer and noticed immediately what it was.
"An unhatched egg! She quickly prepared a charge shot when suddenly the egg hatched! Samus stumbled back and quickly focused her cannon on the newly hatched infant but right as she was about to let the charge shot go something crossed her mind. The metroid wasn't attacking her , infact it hadn't made a single move toward her unlike the other hatchlings she just fought. This baby just hovered in the air for a few moments and then squealed before floating around Samus .
"It's happy to see me?"
The baby flew around and bounced up and down in the air but made no move toward her . Still she was cautious. metroids were known for being deceptive and for waiting for the opportune moment to strike. The moment she let her guard it would attack her . Yet she wasn't sure if she entirely believed that. The baby just flew around and squealed every time she made eye contact with it. It floated closer to her and levitated above her cannon. This was her chance ! She could kill it right now before it even suspected anything!
Samus sighed and lowered her cannon, letting the shot impact the ground instead. This baby was the last of its kind and without the queen to tell it otherwise it seemed to think Samus was its mother. She thought through every possible option to her currently with serious consideration. She could deliver it to the federation for research ! Perhaps they could rediscover how the chozo controlled them and learn how to better protect civilisations from future attacks! But what would they think if she showed up with a metroid after being instructed to kill them all? And what if the space pirates found out about it? If they did there could be serious consequences and yet somehow it felt worth the risk.
Samus started walking through the rest of the cave and the baby followed along with her. Up ahead were more X fossils, the baby flew ahead and broke them into pieces with its mandibles, she picked up one of the fossils and took it with her.
-Eventually they reached the surface and crawled out through a narrow hole. They were ontop of the canyon and Samus's gunship was was about a mile away!
