Metroid: Extinction

One More Confrontation

The sky was full of dark clouds and rain poured down in heavy amounts.  The wind was slightly rough aswell, a stark contrast compared to the bright skies that were visible upon arrival. Samus reached her ship and entered with the baby . She got into the cockpit and took off immediately. But she was hardly a few feet in the air before a loud familiar screech bellowed through the clouds. A dark silhouette could be seen sailing through the clouds and Samus was suddenly filled with an uneasy feeling.  10 missiles launched forth from behind the clouds and damaged the ship . Samus quickly set it to autopilot as she and the baby quickly got out and jumped to the ground below. Tapping her arm cannon she signalled the ship to fly away from the scene of this upcoming battle.

Thunder flashed through the skies and Samus wiped the rain from her visor as she searched the skies for signs of her attacker. Lightning flashed and her enemy quickly descended from the clouds and flew down several feet before turning upwards and hovering in the air. The lightning outlined the metal appearance of the attacker and Samus stared at it with her eyes wide open and her jaw dropped. Her heart was beating incredibly fast. She hadn't felt this amount of anxiety since....

"RIDLEY?"

Her entire body felt stiff and her blood felt cold upon saying his name. 

"HOW ARE YOU STILL ALIVE!" she screamed In anguish and horror. She had thought the past was buried and that her nemesis was gone for good. But now all her past trauma and fear was flooding to the surface once more. Ridley screeched and Samus reached up to activate her scan visor. She needed to know how he was here!

"Morphology: Meta Ridley. Reborn and enhanced through cybernetic augmentation and armour systems,  Ridley was gravely wounded on Zebes but had slowed his heart rate so as to appear deceased.  Space pirates claimed his remains and encased him in armour so as to speed up his regenerative abilities.  Meta Ridley now possesses new weapons in his armour including a missile launcher, laser cannon and energy conductor on his tail. The extra armour surrounding his chest is weaker than the rest of his armour and is the best target for any offensive move. Destroying this armour and overloading the energy cell underneath should prove fatal."

And with that Meta Ridley flew toward Samus and fired a laser from his stomach . She dived out of the way as the laser cut through a chunk of canyon and caused it to fall below. Meta Ridley turned around and spread his golden mechanical wings wide as he shot a fireball at her. Again she dived out of the way but this time she managed to switch to her X ray visor and lock on to the armour on his chest. She immediately began firing at the weak armour . Meta Ridley roared and swooped down at Samus forcing her to jump back as he crashed into the ground and charged toward her. He swung his claws viciously and she was barely able to dodge them. He spun around and his tail glowed a bright blue as it smacked her and disrupted some of her shields. He quickly grabbed her in his right hand and went to crush her skull with his jaws when suddenly the baby metroid ambushed him and latched onto his snout. He grabbed it and with the extra strength in his arms he threw it off . But before he could attack it, a charge shot hit his right cheek . Samus then jumped as he tried to swipe her with his tail again . He flew back up into the air and fired missiles from his back as he engulfed her in flames . Samus was thrown about as the missiles hit her.  She grabbed ridleys mouth with the grapple beam and as she pulled herself toward him she screw attacked and knocked him out of the air. The two landed on the ground and as Ridley got to his feet Samus hit him with a super missile straight in the middle of the chest.  The armour exploded and the energy cell was now exposed. Ridley spat fire once again but she avoided it and hit the energy cell directly with a charged shot ! Meta Ridley roared as electrical energy zapped all across his armour . He thrashed around on the ground and stumbled on his feet, clutching his chest with his arms desperately trying to contain the short circuiting .

Samus tapped her arm cannon and her ship flew down and remained in the air above her as she waited to give the final command. Meta Ridley looked at her and screeched as he continued to thrash around .

"You are finished"

She tapped her cannon for the last time and the gunship fired 4 torpedos which blasted meta Ridley, his armour and one of his wings being blown to pieces as the blast threw him over the edge of the canyon! He bumped off the sides of the canyon on his way down before smashing into ground head first sending large chunks of armour flying in all directions.

Samus stepped over his broken wing and stared down the canyon. The biggest wave of relief washed over her yet she was weary. She had previously believed both Weavel and Ridley were dead and yet they both showed up here to hunt her down. Weavel was still alive so how could she be certain Ridley was definitely dead this time ?  especially since he was the one who had regenerative abilities and could fake his demise.  Whatever the case she knew she would be able to take him down again if he ever came back yet it was the memories and the past pain that she feared.  It wasn't Ridley himself who she was afraid of, it was what he symbolised.

"Target Meta Ridley has snapped his neck in several places and huge chunks of his already wounded body have been ripped to pieces by the force of the explosion and the fall. The energy cell's destruction has flat lined all vitals. Target is officially deceased"

Samus fell to her knees and cried. The baby circled her head and she felt happy and reassured with it at her side.  This baby metroid was the one thing Ridley and the pirates could never take away from her. Getting to her feet again she slowly turned away and wondered if this time she was turning her back on the past for real . She was hesitant to believe it but ultimately she accepted it and walked back onto her ship with the baby again . The ship took off and ascended into the clouds and then up into the atmosphere.  Once she was in space Samus opened up a communication channel with the galactic federation.

"This is Samus Aran. Mission completed! Upon my arrival to SR388 the metroids began evolving into 6 different stages. I battled each of them and eventually got to the heart of a bigger mystery. The chozo created the metroids 200 years ago to hunt down a more dangerous species they called X parasites. When the x were eliminated the metroids evolved and turned against the chozo. Ontop of that a specific group of chozo warriors came to the planet and killed the survivors before burying the evidence.  I battled and killed all 40 of the metroids aswell as a number of space pirates who were attempting to establish a base.  It turns out that they resurrected Ridley and the former pirate commander Weavel. I battled and killed Ridley but Weavel bested me and escaped. I am currently on my way back to federation HQ with a sample of an X parasite fossil aswell as a ... special surprise.
