Samus sat on a rock and flicked off some of the insects that tried crawling on her. She believed she had time to gather her thoughts before pressing onward since the space pirates so far had to kill every metroid they encountered she wasn't overly worried about them escaping with one of the creatures for now. So many thoughts flooded her mind all at once, even more than when she was back on Zebes.

What were the dark green fossils she discovered earlier that the chozo were collecting?

Why do metroids evolve?

And what happened the chozo that were here? Did any of them survive the flood of purple
Liquid?

Even though she had asked herself these questions so many times she still had come no closer to answering any of them the further she delved. It seemed like the deeper she ventured the more mysteries began opening up to her. But a similar situation happened when she journeyed to Zebes, she had unraveled the mystery of the Zebesian military force and had encountered the ghost of Old bird. Who was to say she couldn't do the same here?

She attempted to send a transmission to the galactic federation but it failed and she hit her head back against the wall in frustration. She didn't need the federation, infact she worked far more efficiently and quicker on her own. It was just that she wondered if maybe they could help speculate on the explanation to these mysteries. What did they think of her now? What did Adam think? Did he think she was dead? or did he believe she was succeeding? Slowly these more emotionally charged questions came to mind and she began to wish she either stayed in the military or never accepted the call from them to go this wretched planet. She was a woman in her early twenties and had already endured more hellish scenarios than most people would in ten life times! She never admitted it before but she felt the pressure, the pressure from many civilisations to ensure they were safe and the pressure to solve these unanswered questions. She didn't want any of this, to be seen as a galactic saviour or this unstoppable force. For once in her life she just wanted to be.. human. But even that was impossible since she had alien dna in her body. It was if the universe itself had robbed her of everything she ever wanted and had instead thrust upon her everything she never wanted and more. Anything she felt she was completely irrelevant because ultimately she was just a service to be hired out and used at will.

"What do I do when this is all over" the inner voice in her brain echoed. She now suddenly came to the understanding that without nightmarish labyrinths and caves to explore her life seemed bland and uncertain. She would no longer be in danger but at the same time, her identity and place in the grand scheme of things was up in the air . She could retire and attempt to get a normal job in some bar on some random planet but she knew deep down that that wasn't in her nature. It was her nature to help other people and on her terms without worrying about the losses or the fear of the failure . She would always be drawn back into this life of uncertainty whether she liked it or not and she really didn't know what to feel about that .

She shrugged and stood up. No point worrying about the future when there was no way to be certain if she would even be alive in an hour .
