A loud thud echoed throughout the vast cavern as Samus landed on the ground. The surrounding cavern was enormous and seemingly stretched upwards for about 4 miles and extended for a distance currently unknown in all directions. Samus approached one of the many different sized rocks that were lying about, each had different heights, lengths and width. Closer inspection revealed that they were not rocks at all but infact crystals! They were dark purple in colour , some appearing black at first glance . Most likely these crystals were formed from the purple liquid that previously resided here. After walking around for a bit Samus could see that within some of the crystals there appeared to be what looked like buildings of some sort. Some looked small enough to be houses and she guessed the biggest ones were skyscrapers of some sort. This place was a city once! She looked in all directions in awe and scanned the environment.
"Environment scans have revealed this area was once a city built by the chozo. Their society seemingly thrived on this planet at one time and they expanded across all habitable parts of the world. At some point in the past a devastating event occurred that caused the city to be flooded by the purple liquid . Anyone left behind would have been instantly killed and the buildings were eroded away with these crystals growing over them and gaining their colour from the liquid."
She hesitated for a moment and stood there silently to pay her respects for the fallen members of the species that had adopted her so many years ago. It was at this point when she was calm that she noticed out of the corner of her eye bits of small debris lying around what would have once been a street. She stepped closer and she immediately felt sick upon realising that what was lying around were actually bones! Dozens of bones were lying around , almost blending in with the environment due to them being stained purple. The skeletons were broken but a few remained mostly intact. She tried to pick up a small skeleton of what was small enough to be a child and it disintegrated into ash as she gripped it. She stumbled back horrified and shook her head in disbelief. It was at this point she was now acutely aware of the various skeletons trapped inside a number of the crystals . Adults, children, some intact ,some broken . This once grand city was now reduced to a graveyard, one that Samus had unwittingly unearthed. She walked for miles through the crystallised streets , careful not to trample on the remains littered around like sand thrown to the wind. A hole in the ground led to a narrow glass tunnel that seemed to be apart of some hidden building. As she walked across the glass tunnel it suddenly broke and she fell several feet and smacked off one of the crystals on her way down. As she got to her feet she noticed what appeared to be the remains of an old water filtration system . Broken and stained pipes overlapped and seemingly branched into different directions. One of them was broken In half and Samus knew this might possibly be the only way for her to get out of this lost city. She climbed inside the large pipe which was also very wide and had small puddles of purple liquid. With her arm on her cannon she steadily walked through the pipe for ages and right as she got to a T junction an alpha metroid came around the corner with a blue bug like creature in its jaws. It dropped the creature when it spotted Samus and it glided toward her. She ran toward it and jumped over it , with her grapple beam she pulled the alpha metroid toward her then blasted it with a super missile leaving its remains as another stain to the walls of the pipe . There was now 37 metroids left on this planet!
"I had almost forgotten about the mission" she cursed to herself as she continued onward. But how had that metroid gotten down here? Surely it had not been trapped here all this time and somehow survived without food? The only other explanation was that it came from some place deeper and made its way here when the liquid was drained.
"These pipes are connected to a nearby hydroelectric power station that once provided power across vast areas of the surface. " the scan visor revealed. Surely this next area would have a lot more metroids and would help her make a clearer path deeper . Already this mission was mirroring her previous bounty on Zebes where the way forward was always deeper and into more dangerous territory ,but unlike then she had no clear direction or objective in mind. On Zebes she constantly knew that she had to make her way to Tourion and she knew that she could accomplish her mission but this time was different. Possibly because this planet was unfamiliar but also because for the first time in her career she did not know if she could actually accomplish her goal. Condemning an entire species to extinction is way more challenging than killing a single Artificial intelligence. The stakes this time were also way higher , if she failed than the metroids could repopulate the surface and be discovered and taken off world by anyone.
This would not happen ! she swore it! she owed it to herself the entire federation council and even Adam to end this galactic threat once and for all
