After the three of you found the file, you all started heading out of Thomas' house. Once again you and James had to hold on to dear life as Thomas flew over the many districts of Hell.
"Hey, In-Training?"
James shockingly was the first to spark a conversation.
"Hmm?"
"I'm sorry I snapped at you earlier." He still didn't forgive himself even when you had already forgave him.
"It's fine, James. You're stressed about the other angels. I'm stressed too. I want to find them as much as you do." You smiled, "And I know we will find them. I just know it."
"If only I can be as optimistic as you in this situation," James grumbled. It was clear that his time as a Grim took a toll on him, making him view the world in a much darker light. He expected the worst to happen as much as he hated it. "If we're too late..." he paused.
With the best of your ability, you placed your hand on his shoulder. " Don't worry. If you can survive fighting a demon and being shot in the head, then I'm sure you can do it. Especially since your soul sensing ability is stronger than any angel I've known throughout my one hundred years of existence! I know you'll save them. You're the most capable angel I know." You could see a red hue develop on James' cheeks as he averted his gaze from you.
"Hey! And what about me?" Thomas shouted, finally joining in the conversation. It appeared he wasn't fond of you praising James.
You rolled your eyes. "And you're the most capable demon I know and possibly will only know, Thomas," you laughed, amused by his silly action.
Thomas smiled lovingly at you while James simply watched awkwardly, acting as the third wheel unwillingly. Of course, he could let go of Thomas and dive to his doom out of his own free will, but he have to did deal with things worse than a couple in love as a Grim.
Love became foreign to him during his years as a Grim since his job forbade him from finding or wanting. He did feel something with you for a while. It made him feel different. Warm. Like he saw the world in a bright color. He noticed that he started to act as well. More caring despite still being distant. But knowing your soul was bonded with Thomas' it made it clear that those feelings would be unrequited. He needed to let go of those silly feelings. Still, part of him hoped perhaps in a separate timeline or world it would be possible for you two.
It didn't cause any heartache for the angel, but it did make him realize how much he changed throughout the years. How hollow he felt with the almost lack of humanity and empathy he had. He didn't want to feel like that again but it was necessary. If only rules in Heaven could change.
"Um... In-Training?" he voiced to get your attention. "I never got your plan you suggested since I stopped you."
You almost forgot about the plan thank goodness you didn't. "I was thinking that we should tell Heaven, but that would mean risking more angels' lives if it means we invade Hell."
You were worried that there would be a greater loss of angels' lives to save the group of In-Trainings. Would it be worth it? The more deaths the greater access demons have to the souls of angels, and who knows what the consequences would be?
Plus, Heaven would end up demanding how two angels managed to go to Hell without being harmed or killed. You didn't want to put Thomas or James in harm's way. Thomas already had a traitorous reputation with Heaven after what Martha did to him, and James could be at risk of being banished and losing his wings like Thomas had. Telling Heaven you and James worked with a demon would sound like treason despite the good intent you all had.
