CHAPTER 26
GAME DAY
Lyra wouldn't doubt that 5th year was the year she had been most angry. She assumed most of it was just normal, growing up stuff. But another part of her knew that there was more to it, something about You-Know-Who, and Umbridge, and everything else that sucked in the world.
Thankfully, she had a handful of good distractions. The new Defense group, led by Harry was something to look forward to, And Angelina was working the Quidditch team like a mad woman, so it ran through her energy pretty well, leaving her chipper enough at the end of training but too exhausted to do much. She now wore leather gloves that protect the scabbing cuts on her hand.
"Nice practice, Knight, you too Bell." Angelina said as they changed out.
"Thanks, Angelina." They said as the girl left the room, probably to the field again.
"She's going insane, isn't she?" Katie asked.
"Mhmm. She'll mellow out after the first game, when we win." Lyra said with a smirk.
"Yes we are! Gonna kick some snake ass." Katie said in a cheer, lifting her hand for a high-five.
"Snakes don't have asses, Bell."
"You know what I meant!" She said as she walked out.
Lyra laughed and grabbed her bag before following after Katie.
"Little Lyra!" the twins called from the entrance of the boys' changing rooms, "We haven't heard from you in a while!"
"Yeah, been busy. How's the business going?"
"Right on track." George said, and Fred followed.
"Many successful tests."
"I still can't believe you managed to convince a bunch of students to test them for you."
"It's all about the branding Little Lyra, all about the branding." Fred winked and the twins walked ahead of her into the castle. Lyra laughed before following.
"Was this place here before?" Zara asked as Lyra pulled at the brass handle of the defense groups quarters.
"Never seen it before." Lyra muttered, "But it's Hogwarts, weird shit appears all the time."
Most Gryffindors from the meeting were already in the room, inspecting the room. Harry explained what the room was as it filled with the rest of the students.
"Well," said Harry, slightly fidgeting. "This is the place we've found for practice sessions, and you've - er - obviously found it OK."
"It's fantastic!" said Cho, and several people murmured their agreement, Lyra included.
"It's bizarre," said Fred, frowning around at it. "We once hid from Filch in here, remember, George? But it was just a broom cupboard then."
"Hey, Harry, what's this stuff?" asked Dean from the rear of the room, indicating the Sneakoscope and the Foe-Glass.
"Dark Detectors," said Harry, stepping between the cushions to reach them. ''Basically they all show when Dark wizards or enemies are around, but you don't want to rely on them too much, they can be fooled..."
He spaced out for a second, staring at one of the mirrors "Well, I've been thinking about the sort of stuff we ought to do first and - er -"
Hermione raised her hand, much like she would in class. "What, Hermione?"
