CHAPTER 32

HAPPY MEMORY

Lyra listened to her dad's story, she heard all of it but to her, it just didn't add up. The story made sense, sure but the lies they made her so angry.

("When were you going to tell me?"

"I'm turning 16 in a few weeks and you didn't think to tell me yet?"

"Where you going to wait until I graduated, married, had kids?")

Elliot didn't have much answers for her questions. And Lyra went up to her borrowed room. Sirius had come up a few minutes later.

"Hey Little Lyra! How're you doing?"

Lyra gave him a look that said, 'are you seriously asking that right now?'

With a sigh he sat himself down on the bed. "Look, I know you're mad at him and you have a right to be. But your dad loved Cassiopeia so much. It was like... she was his source of oxygen. Her betrayal, it broke him. Not to mention everything else he lost during that war."

Lyra felt tears pooling at her eyes again. She had cried through the majority of Elliot's story, because while she was furious, her dad had truly lost so much.

"Your dad may not have been right, but he did everything to protect you as best he could. You're the only person he's loved more than your mother."

Lyra forced herself to nod and say, "Yeah. I get it."

Sirius stayed silent for a few minutes before saying, "You're still upset."

"I'm still upset," She confirmed, "But I'll get over it. I know his intentions were in the right place."

Sirius patted her back before leaving. The next morning, Lyra woke up late, feeling more exhausted than she had in days. Her eyes were swollen and uncomfortably puffy, but she forced herself out of bed, into the shower, and downstairs.

Mrs. Weasley was busying herself in the kitchen and gave her a smile, offering her breakfast. Lyra took it gratefully and sat in front. Sirius and Elliot came down a few minutes later and an awkward silence took over the group until Lyra had to head back to school.

The three adults walked her to the fireplace, still in a silence. Mrs. Wealsey reached forward to wrap her in a hug and Lyra hadn't felt that warmth in so long that hse nearly melted into it.

Sirius was next, "Stay safe, kid."

Lyra nodded into his chest, "I will, thanks."

Then her dad stepped forward, both avoiding each other's eyes. Lyra finally reached forward, wrapping him in a hug and letting go quickly after. "Bye, dad." She muttered before turning to the fireplace.

"Albus Dumbledore's office, Hogwarts."

Lyra gave Zara the run through of what had happened when she got back. Eventually deciding she was too tired to continue and took a nap.

Zara wouldn't stop looking at her worriedly for the next few days. Lyra even tried making a joke, "Merlin, Zara. You're a better mother than my actual one."

Neither of the girls laughed and the uncomfortable feeling lasted days after.

Finally, it seemed like Zara had enough of her sulky attitude and told Blaise. Which of course led to an argument because Lyra was upset but no less stubborn.

She felt bad about it in the days that followed. Great, now I fucked up my relationship.

But Blaise was just as stubborn, something that Lyra did not give him enough credit for. The idiot showed up with flowers and a nice, dress shirt while Lyra looked like she had rolled out of bed, which she had.
