Chapter-21

It had been 2 days since Zoya was nowhere to be found. Aditya was fuming with rage, the entire day before not finding her in the college since Mahi told him that she would be back the day after. As soon as he saw Mahi entering into the college, he went to her. Mahi was scared seeing his eyes which were oozing out anger.
"Where is Zoya?" Aditya roared at her gathering the attention of people around.
"Adi...she went to khala's house...I..I told you already." Mahi stuttered.
"Mahi I warn ...." Before he could complete, his phone ringed. He picked up the call immediately after looking at the caller Id.
"Sir there is a girl named Zoya Siddiqui admitted in City Hospital since last 2 days. I think she is the one you are looking for." The person at the other side on the phone spoke professionally.
Aditya's eyes turned darker due to the anger and he cut the call. His eyes were throwing daggers at Mahi.
"You were lying. Weren't you? Zoya is in hospital and you lied to me saying she went to your khala's house." Aditya's voice echoed through the area.
Mahi looked at Aditya in shock. "Adi..Lis.. listen to me... Actually she slipped in the bathroom so ..." Aditya cut her off in between.
"I am not going to leave you for this Mahi." Saying this, he directly headed towards the hospital where Zoya was admitted.

Aditya stood at the door in which Zoya was admitted. She was sleeping peacefully with a bandage on her head and one on her leg. Aditya entered inside and sat on the stool beside her bed. He looked at her bandages and touched it softly. He didn't want to wake her up so he sat there staring at her face.

Zoya woke up soon and was startled to find Aditya beside her. She smiled at him happily but her smile turned into a frown as soon as she saw his jaws clenched and dark red eyes.
"I was your best friend Zoya. Wasn't I?" Aditya questioned, his gaze fixed at her with a blank expression.
"Was?" Zoya spoke, her voice coming out in a whisper due to the shocking use of 'was' by Aditya.
"Yes 'was'. Because it doesn't look like now. I don't even think you ever considered me as your friend, leave aside best friend." Aditya smiled sarcastically.
"Why would you say so?" Zoya asked while her eyes brimmed with tears.
"You didn't even tell me that you are here, in a hospital. Why Zoya? " Aditya asked.
"Aditya...I am sorry. My phone was not with me and I didn't want you, pooja and yash to miss your lectures along with me. Exams are approaching and I didn't want you to miss important classes." Zoya said meekly looking at him.
"How did this happen?" Aditya asked.
"I fell from the stairs." Zoya replied looking down.
Aditya looked at her for a minute.
"You know you can't lie easily." Aditya smirked at her.
"I am not lying." Zoya defended herself.
"Mahi said that you slipped in the bathroom Zoya. Atleast you guys should have discussed once before throwing these lies on my face." Aditya said, his eyes showing his disappointment and anger.
"I am sorry." Zoya replied with her head down.
"Just stop with your Sorry and tell me the real reason. I am sure your family is behind this. Am I right Zoya?" He asked, anger evident in his voice.
"Aditya... please calm down..." Zoya said hesitantly but Aditya cut her off.
"Just tell me the real reason Zoya." His voice was now dangerously calm sending shivers down her spine.

Flashback -
"Stay away from Adi, Zoya. I can't understand how blind are you to not see that he loves me. And I love him too." Mahi spoke crossing her arms against her chest.
"Mahi... It's.. It's not like that. You are getting it all wrong. He just sees you as a friend. You will get heartbroken Mahi." Zoya said while holding her arm.
"Zoya shutup." Saying this Mahi pushed her a little. Zoya's ankle got twisted and she slipped, falling off the stairs."

Flashback End

"I swear it was not intentional Aditya. She pushed me by mistake. I didn't lie to you this time. I really fell from stairs." Zoya spoke.
"Wait a second, what did you say? You didn't lie to me this time. When did you lie Zoya?" Aditya asked standing up from the seat.
"Why did I even say that?" Zoya whispered while cursing herself.
"Stop blabbering to yourself and answer me Zoya. Don't force me to talk to you rudely." Aditya spoke messaging his head with his fingers, trying to calm himself.
"I..I lied that day when you saw me wearing those full sleeved clothes. I told you that I fell from stairs but actually, it was abbu who raised his hand on me that day." Zoya spoke while tears fell from her eyes. Aditya clenched his fist hearing her. His bloodshot eyes were scaring her too.
"I am not leaving them now." Aditya muttered to himself.
"Wait..Wait you will not do anything please. First listen to me." Zoya pleaded holding his hands.
"What Zoya?" Aditya roared. Zoya flinched due to his tone but calmed herself.
"Abbu came to meet me along with Madhu aunty and then...."

Flashback -
"I am really sorry for whatever I did to you Zoya. I am really sorry." Madhu said.
"Yes Zoya. Please forgive your Abbu and Ammi. We have realised our mistakes. We know that we were wrong. We never gave you our love when you were begging for it all along." Waseem said joining his hands together. "But We promise you we love you and we will show you our love now. We want to start afresh Zoya. Please forgive us. Please." Waseem pleaded while wiping his tears.
"Abbu what are you saying? Please don't join hands in front of me please." Saying this she removed his joined hands and held them." I was never angry with you both. You are my family. I love you abbu and Aunty." Zoya spoke while tears kept falling from her eyes. She smiled through the tears and hugged them.
Waseem smirked evilly at Madhu and patted Zoya's back soothingly.

Flashback End

"They have realised their mistakes Aditya. Please don't do anything now please." Zoya pleaded while tears fell from her eyes.
"Zoya you are too good and innocent and that is the reason you can't see their real faces. People like them can never realise anything Zoya." Aditya said. His voice now filled with anger and sadness.
"Aditya please. I am getting the love of my family for the first time. Please don't do anything and destroy it please." Zoya spoke while holding his hands tightly.
"Zoya try to understand..." Aditya said restlessly but Zoya cut her off. Her crying and hiccups growing more.
"Please.. Please.." Zoya said while crying and hiccuping.
Aditya looked at her crying miserably and huffed out a breath in annoyance. He sat beside her and took her hands in his.
"Okay. I will not do anything for now. But promise me something first." Aditya said.
"What?" Zoya asked sniffling.
"Promise that if they ever lay a single finger on you again, you would tell me no matter what." Aditya asked while looking at her.
"Promise." Zoya said and pinched the skin of her neck showing her promise.
Aditya chuckled at her childish action and wiped her tears with his hands.
"Now stop crying. You know I get tears in my eyes seeing you cry. Do you want me to cry here too?" Aditya asked playfully.
Zoya nodded her head in a 'NO' and chuckled.
