Identity and Value

Your value as a person can be, depending on what you believe, either intrinsic or dependent on other factors.

You might believe that you have a soul and are therefore valuable. This means that you have no obligation to provide any more value than your mere presence in any situation ever, your soul, and the very fact that you are alive already make you extremely valuable and precious and therefore a gift to the world in every situation.

However, if you do not believe in this intrinsic value, you have a few other options. None of these options should provide you with a safe sense of self and you should always feel the need to prove that you have value. Only idiots believe in something that hasn't been proven. That's why religious people are all nuts. You are definitely more valuable the louder you are, and the more people notice you. That is just a fact.

You can attain value through the things you possess

If you are born rich, this is going to be a lot more enjoyable for you. Your life, however, does not need to be primarily about enjoyment, so if you are poor, it does not mean that you cannot define your value via your possessions. For the poorer people who believe in this type of value, I recommend having a low standard of morals so that attaining goods via morally ambiguous ways will be an option for you. However, if you do not care about your own happiness, you can retain your "morals" while believing in this type of self-value.

You can have value through your talents/looks

If you are not talented or beautiful, you do not have any value.

Being talented means being better than average. Talent is not achieved through training and is just like beauty, something that you are born with and cannot be changed. Being born without being more talented or good-looking than the average human being IS a sentence to a worthless existence. On the bright side, if you do follow this line of logic not only you are worthless but also approximately half of all human population. (3,5 billion people) at the very least.

For people who are better than average in some way, these rules can be applied:

If you are very smart but lacking a better than average appearance, you should definitely judge other people for being just pretty. Being pretty is intrinsically less valuable than being smart. Pretty people have no value.

If you are very pretty but not very smart, your value is too big, and your time is too valuable to deal with the nasty arguments of "smart-people" or to even have complicated thoughts.

In fact, if you are born with any characteristic that puts you above average, you should make ALL of your identity and world-view completely dependent on this very trait, disregarding any other points of view.

You can have value through your achievements

It is very important that you see your achievement in comparison to that of others. If you did not achieve as much as other people have, you are less valuable than them. Striving for achievements is all that your life should be about. The more you achieve, the more people you will know that have a lower value than you. Knowing more people who have less value than you will make you happier.

Bullying

You don't need to be actually better than other people to appear better than other people. Perception makes the world what it really is. See chapter five for more information on this.

Value because of Perfection

It is recommendable to be at least partly delusional if you want to believe in this type of value. If you however do not care for your own happiness, you can hold this belief and still remain in touch with reality.

Value because of scarcity

You are not like everyone else? Great! This makes you especially eligible for this belief. Other people may also hold this belief but they will probably not hold onto it just as tightly as those very special people who are oh so scarce. No need to be useful, you are special.
