My leg bounced as I sat in the chair, waiting for them to call my name. I looked around at the other girls waiting for their names to be called too. When I look at them, all I can see are people who were probably way better than I was. All these women were hoping this movie was their big break just like me. This sort of opportunity doesn't happen often. But the only thing that kept me from thinking I wouldn't have a shot was Harry and his support. He read the script with me for two days until I got it perfectly.
"More emotion." He said. When I would give a little bit more, he would smile at me and try and help me understand this character."There, you go! That was great! You'll get it for sure."
His support mixed with Sofia's... encouragement.
"You're a badass. Do what it takes. Ugly cry in front of them if you have to."
Those were the things getting me through this right now and not walking away. Other than my parents. Having Harry Styles as your support system was one of the best feelings in the world. We didn't kiss any other time. We both did a good job of not making it awkward or bringing it up, but Harry was still flirtatious and his cheeky self. I still haven't figured out why he wanted to be my friend. I haven't seen him in a few days. He's been busy and I've been unpacking while Sofia is working.
"Everly Pierce." A woman said. I looked up and smiled as I followed her into the room. I immediately felt the nerves bubble inside of me as I looked at the producers. I walked over to them and shook their hands, introducing myself.
"Alright, Miss. Pierce, you're trying out for Ruby Dowler. Are you ready?" The producer asked. I pushed the piece of hair out of my face and nodded.
"Yes, sir." The producers smiled at me and got comfortable.
"Okay, go ahead." I took a quick breath, calming my emotions. Unfortunately, I had Harry's encouraging words running in my head.
"If you feel nervous, pretend you're doing it with me."
"Come on, please don't do this," I begged.
"I have to, you don't know when to think about other people." The producer said.
"You don't understand what's happening right now. No one does."
"Then tell me." I looked around, pretending that I couldn't explain it. As if I couldn't tell my best friend why I was leaving.
"I just..."
"Of course. You never think about me." He scoffed.
"Come on, don't do this," I begged, getting myself ready for the emotional monologue.
"I'm sorry, Ruby. It's for the best." He said.
"No. You're not going to make me feel bad about this. Not you too! I can't do this by myself--"
I felt myself start to get into the character and I felt my emotions take over as I spoke the monologue. As I finished, I felt good. I felt like this was the best audition I've ever done. I looked up at the producers once I was done. An impressed smile crept up on his lips. One that I hadn't seen from other producers.
"That was good." The producer said, nodding and looking at the people around him.
"Thank you." My smile grew a little, but my body was exploding.
"We'll let you know very soon. Thank you, Miss. Pierce."
"Thank you," I repeated and walked away.
As I walked down the street, my phone started ringing. I pulled it out of my pocket and saw it was Harry calling. I didn't care it was weird that he was calling. I was just excited to tell someone about the audition and how well it went. It was because of him that I might have a chance.
