A friend of a friend

"I could have found my way to the second phase by myself too" I huffed as Hisoka continued to drag me through the foggy woods.
"I know my little baby warrior" he grinned "But i wanted to use this time to catch up with you. I haven't gotten to talk to you since the exam began."
"There's nothing to say. Just a lot of running" I whined "And you can let go of my wrist now I'm not gonna get lost or anything"
He let go of my wrist as the blood rushed back, I rubbed it gently as I looked up at him.
"You killed those guys like their lives were worthless" I said looking down.
"They sought me out to threaten and kill me and not only that they disrespected me by being so unprepared to fight. Their lives were worthless. They threw them away themselves." he said "Listen little fighter, not every life is worth a second glance."
"What makes your life worth a second glance" I mumbled clearly upset. However he didn't respond we just ran the rest of the way in silence,
We soon reached the second phase. The examiners were Gourmet Hunters. Everyone whined and complained, throwing insults about how they weren't real hunters, but nonetheless we set out to get some pig to cook. I walked with Gon and his friends.
"I'm Leorio" the old man from before said to me, holding out his hand.
"I'm Luna" I said back
"I'm Killua" the blonde I saw in the woods said to me.
"Nice to meet you" I said
"I heard that you saved Gon and Leorio" I barely heard Killua mumble. Even though I heard him I wasn't going to acknowledge that.
"What was that" I said looking all innocent
"I said I heard you helped Gon earlier" he said a bit louder but still a mumble. I'd take it.
"Of course. Even though I'm only some pathetic 8 year old I would do anything I can to help a friend" I shot back.
Gon looked at Killua and elbowed him in the side. Killua glared at him before continuing.
"I'm sorry about before," He said even quieter. I thought about making him repeat it, but if he was making an effort at all to apologize I would take it.
"It's alright, I'm sorry too" I said running up and snaking my arms around his body from behind. He freaked out and wiggled me off mumbling something about me being embarrassing.
Soon we found the pigs and headed back to the cooking stations.
I sucked at cooking, Never cooked anything in my life. I even burnt popcorn after pressing the popcorn button on the microwave But I was excited to try. But just as I thought I completely burnt my pig and you couldn't even tell what it was. But it was the only thing I had to present to the examiners so I walked up with it anyway. Menchi didn't even let me put it on the table and not even Buhara ate it. He ate everyone's. I failed I guess. I went over to the corner and sulked until Menchi declared that everyone failed. That made me feel a bit better
Suddenly I felt Hisoka's bloodlust rise and I ran over to where he was and hugged his waist. It didn't do anything to stop him but I hoped it made him feel a bit better.
Then some old guy came and said that it was unfair to fail everyone and that everyone would get a second chance at passing. Then they brought us all to a big cliff mountain thing.
Menchi showed us what we would be doing which seemed a lot easier than the last thing.
After I got my egg I asked Menchi if she could boil it for me which she did after I explained to her how bad of a cook I was.
Afterwards Mr. Netero had us get on his airship as we made our way to the third phase. I used the time we had to get some much needed food, drink and sleep. I ran into Tonpa shortly after i was done stuffing my face.
"I wouldn't let me guard down if I were you" he warned " I bet you that the third phase is gonna happen on our journey. I mean why else would they give us some much time as a break. This exam is suppose to be hard just don't forget" he warned me before grinning and walking off.
What a nice man. What would I do without him. I started walking around when I ran into Mr. Netero.
"Hi there little one" he said with a big cheesy smile.
"Hi" I chirped
"Don't you want to get some sleep before the next phase?" he asked
"Nope you can't get me that easy. I already know the next phase is gonna happen while everyone is asleep. That's a nasty trick old man" I huffed annoyed that he tried to trick me.
He started to burst out laughing. "Where did you get a stupid idea like that. If I was trying to set everyone up to fail then I would have let Menchi fail you all in the second phase" he said as he continued to laugh
"Sorry" I said sheepishly. I would have to be sure to tell Tonpa not to worry. "I'm Luna"
"It's nice to meet you Luna"
"It's nice to meet you too" I said before skipping down the hall.
After I informed Tonpa of my conversation with the old man he seemed slightly agitated. Probably because he could have been asleep by now if he wasn't so paranoid. He kept trying to convince me that the old man was lying but I assured him we had nothing to worry about.
After that I went to find Hisoka.
I found him in a room along with another man I hadn't seen before. When I opened the door I felt the other man's bloodlust shoot out at me, however I already knew a bit of nen so I was able to protect myself from his one crushing aura as I continued to walk in.
This shocked both men in the room as the one I didn't recognize relaxed his aura.
"You know Nen baby solider" Hioka asked.
"Only enough to protect myself against someone else's aura" I admitted
"Interesting isn't it Illumi" Hisoka said looking at the long haired man. His expression changed very quickly from shocked back to nothing. His eyes were like dark pits and his face was as emotionless as a statue.
"Hi, I'm Luna, I haven't seen you around Illumi" I said
"Get out" was all he said back. Ugh how rude.
"You and my friend Killua would probably be great friends" I huffed
Suddenly he got up and pinned my little body against a wall.
"What did you say?" He asked
"I said why don't you get your big crummy hands off me you pedo freak" I shot back as Hisoka chuckled in the back.
Illumi took a needle out of his pocket and shoved it near my neck all with the same bored expression.
"Oh no what are you going to do give me a shot" I mocked as his bloodlust shot up.
Before he could do anything else Hisoka made a move to stop what was about to happen. Illumi's second of distraction was all I needed. I kicked his feet from under him and as he stumbled a bit his needle scraped against my skin leaving a deep cut on my chest. I winced before jumping on his unbalanced body and grabbing the needle from his hands before rolling off of him.
Hisoka watched amazed and Illumi got up still looking unimpressed. Suddenly he was behind me. That was the fastest I've ever seen someone move. He wrapped his arm around my neck as his other hand slowly searched my body until he found his needle that I was hiding. After he found it he let go of my neck and went back to sit down and rest.
Tears welled up in my eyes combined from my hard gasping for air, my bleeding chest and the fact that he saw me as some helpless girl not even worth the energy to deal with. I got up and stormed to the other side of the room as I searched around in my bag for some first aid stuff.
Hisoka came over to help me bandage up.
"Take off your shirt Luna" he said with all seriousness.
I did what he said knowing that was the only way to get to my wound properly. I thanked the heavens that I had already started wearing training bras. He tended to my wound gingerly and after wiping up the blood and seeing that the cut wasn't as bad as it looked he breathed out a little sigh. After getting me all cleaned up and turned to Illumi.
"So Luna, this is my friend Illumi. He's not much of a people person, but I think he likes you" hisoka grinned.
I glared at Hisoka for his joke and walked straight up to Illumi, which again took the men by surprise.
"I'm sorry" I said loud and proud "I don't know what I did to set you off but I'm sorry for pushing your buttons and later making a move to attack you". Illumi nodded at me and that was enough for me.
I crawled over to where Hioksa was and cuddle up into his chest and went to sleep.
