RIVER sipped his coffee from his place in the Gilbert kitchen, Alaric beside him brewing his own cup.

"I never said yes in the first place" Elena spoke, moving into the kitchen.

River looked up seeing the phone held to Elena's ear, hearing Caroline's voice on the other end.

"You were never going to which is why I planned it anyway" Caroline replied "And my mom wants you to call her"

"Did she find something?" Elena wondered.

"An animal attack in Memphis" Caroline answered "It's the third one this week in Tennessee"

"And you're sure it's a vampire?" Elena confirmed.

"Yes" Caroline agreed "But that doesn't mean it's Klaus"

"Doesn't mean it's not" Elena spoke pushing past Alaric "I'll call her"

"Well, call her on her cell" Caroline advised.

"Tell her thank you for her help" Elena said.

"All right, well, I gotta go" Caroline spoke "I'll see you in a bit"

"Oh, Caroline wait, just...keep tonight small" Elena pleaded "Please?"

"Wear something pretty" River could feel the smirk in Caroline's voice.

Elena sighed as she hung up the phone, River handing the girl a clean mug from the cupboard.

"Was that...Stefan news?" Alaric spoke as he began to tidy up the couch.

"Could be more Klaus victims" Elena nodded

"You certain Stefan's still with him?" River wondered.

"Easy to be certain when the alternative is that he's dead" Elena sighed, pouring the coffee into her mug as she turned to Alaric "Are you sure you're still okay on the couch?"

"Yeah, Yeah, I'm good" Alaric replied.

"Because you spent half the summer on it" Elena added "If you need your own bedroom..."

"Sleeping in your dead parent's room or my dead girlfriend's room?" Alaric asked "No"

"Got it" Elena sighed handing the older man a cup of coffee.

"Hey, Elena" River spoke.

The doppelgänger turned, her gaze meeting the ex-witch's.

"Happy birthday" He smiled.

"Thanks" She half-smiled.

"Good morning" Damon's voice sounded from behind them.

"Hey, I was gonna-" Elena began, the pair turning only to be greeted with Damon's naked body.
