THE wolf moved silently through the forest, his paws making no noise as he padded across the foliage-covered ground, weaving through the trees. He moved quickly, his nose close to the ground as he tracked a scent, his fur standing on edge as he became uneasy.
The wolf slowed before coming to a stop, warily looking around, his teeth bared. A slow growl rumbled from his chest, the wolf turning around. Gold met gold, eyes glinting at each other in the dark. The wolf's growls ceased as the wind began to blow gently, catching the scent he recognised, that he craved.
The man stepped towards the wolf, kneeling down before the large creature, bowing his head.
"How are you here?" His voice was smooth.
The wolf lowered his head, rubbing his snout against the side of the man's face contently. The man returned the gesture, nuzzling his face into the animal's fur. He raised his hands, burying them in the fur, finding comfort in the wolf. He could feel the concern, the need for them to be together.
"I'll come back to you" The man spoke, pulling away "Soon, I promise"
The wolf stepped back, pausing for a moment, before sprinting back off into the forest.
"I'll come home" Klaus said.

River groaned as he rolled over in bed, grimacing as his legs ached with a familiar soreness. He winced as he sat up, stretching his muscles, before standing from his bed. He reached to his bedside table, grabbing two things, his carton of cigarettes and lighter, before noticing the cup of tea that sat beside them, steaming.
River raised it to his lips, sipping the hot liquid and sighing in relief as it soothed him. He moved down the stairs, pulling a cigarette from the carton, lighting it as he came to a stop in the parlour.
"How you feeling?" Damon questioned as River placed himself in the armchair, sighing as he relaxed.
"Sore" River replied placing his tea on the table beside him, taking a drag from his cigarette "Thanks for the drink"
Damon nodded, a small smile as he moved towards the small table that held his whisky, pouring two cups as his phone rang. The vampire answered it, not bothering to check the caller ID.
"You're interrupting my drink" Damon greeted, placing the phone on speaker.
"You miss me?" A bittersweet voice called.
"Katherine" Damon sighed as River groaned "Where are you?"
"Lurking outside of your window" Katherine joked "Pining away"
"What do you want?" Damon rolled his eyes, handing River the glass of whisky.
The witch took it thankfully, tipping the alcohol into his tea and placing the empty glass beside it, taking another drag of his cigarette.
"I'm homesick" Katherine stated "What have I missed?"
"Well" River began with a smirk "Stefan is still Klaus' little prisoner, Elena still thinks she can save him, and no one's thought about you since you left"
