The next day was nerve racking as I was at their house to set things up for them, because they absolutely had no clue how to decorate the house and make it look nice.
It was about 4 when I was finished setting everything up; I looked at the first floor in satisfaction after I was done.
"Will you stay?" Younghoon tugs on my shirt.
"I can't, I have things to take care of." I lie.
"Aw, really? Can't you stay for a little?" Eric pouts.
"It's important." I shake my head.
I felt horrible for lying and I also felt terrible because I wasn't going to be able to see Sunwoo's happy reaction, but I forced myself to accept how things were. I'm just hoping he'll like everything.
"Can you come over later on, then? We're gonna watch a movie." Juyeon blows up another balloon.
"I have a lot of things to take care of, it's going to take me the whole day." I lie again.
Suddenly I felt a little more distant from the guys, because I knew if I was here, Sunwoo wouldn't be happy because he dislikes me. I didn't want to cause more problems especially since he's coming home today, so for now, I think I'll have to distance myself until things get better between the two of us.
"What do you need to do?" Eric frowns.
"Things with my mom and Taehyun." I come up with another lie.
Lie, after lie, after lie.
"Aw, that's so sad.. especially after you helped us with everything." Haknyeon frowns.
"Yeah, I wish you can stay." Jacob pouts.
"It would be so much more fun if you got to stay!" Changmin whines as well.
"Yeah, I'm sorry." I bitterly smile at them.
"He's about to be here." Hyunjae looks up from his phone.
"Make sure you take out the cake and put it on the table, record everything and tell me how it goes. I'll be leaving now." I hug Eric quickly.
"Jihyun.." he mumbles, frowning.
"Don't worry about me, Eric. Have fun, okay?" I fake a smile.
"We'll see you later, Jihyun!" The guys shout.
"Call me, okay?" Eric whispers.
"I will. See you."
I leave their house and take a bus home instead of walking because I felt drained. I tried to ignore the heavy feeling in my heart and tried to stay positive because I knew I couldn't change the way things are; at least, not now.
Maybe once everything gets better and dies down, the tension between the two of us will slowly go away. I don't want to be friends with him again because I know he'll just make me fall for him again.
I can't possibly let myself fall for him a second time after everything. I think it was just life telling me I'm not meant to be in a relationship, because there's no way that it was a coincidence.
When I got home and was sitting on the sofa with Taehyun, Eric sent me a video. I opened his message and watched the video: Sunwoo and Sangyeon came home and the guys surprised them, with the house looking really pretty as I set it up. Sunwoo was smiling brightly in the video and he was clapping happily like a seal.
My heart warmed up after seeing his reaction and seeing how happy he looked from seeing them. It was definitely bittersweet, but I'm still really happy that they're all happy.
Nothing else matters.
I exited out the video and Eric sent me a text.
ERIC
what are you doing, Jihyun?
JIHYUN
i'm resting a bit
ERIC
taehyun told me you guys aren't doing anything later..
read 5:40 p.m.
"Taehyun, you little sloth!!" I smack my brother's head playfully.
"What? What did I do, noona?!" He yelps.
"Why would you-" I sigh, stopping myself since I knew it wasn't my brother's fault.
JIHYUN
it's really important so he wanted to keep it a secret
ERIC
but he told me you guys weren't doing anything for the rest of the day...
ERIC
did you lie, jihyun?
ERIC
why did you really leave?
ERIC
you could have stayed and been with us
JIHYUN
Eric no, I didn't
ERIC
did we do something?
JIHYUN
i just didn't want to interfere with you guys.. since sunwoo came home
ERIC
why would you ever interfere, jihyun? you know we all want you here
JIHYUN
considering the way things are between him and i, i didn't want things to be awkward and ruin the mood
ERIC
if sunwoo and i made up, you guys can make up too
JIHYUN
it doesn't matter, i'm sorry for lying to you guys.. i knew you guys would argue with me if i told you the truth
ERIC
i forgive you, and i know the hyungs will too, but... you told me to make up with him, now it's your turn to make up with sunwoo
JIHYUN
i don't know, Eric
ERIC
okay.. give it some time and he'll calm down. will you try and make up with him, then?
JIHYUN
okay, when that time comes, i'll try
ERIC
do you promise me, hyunnie?
JIHYUN
i promise
ERIC
i have to go, the hyungs are nagging me for being on my phone
ERIC
Younghoon hyung keeps saying he misses you, by the way
