heejin sighed as she looked over the messages before closing her eyes momentarily and lifting herself from the counter she stood against.

"heejinnie, are you okay?" her mother's soft voice spoke as she wheeled herself into the kitchen.

"mom? what are you doing?" heejin asked protectively, immediately turning towards her mother and walking behind the wheelchair, instinctively placing her arms on the handles.

"heejin, i'm okay." her mother giggled, happily placing her hands back into her lap.

"no, your arms need resting. now let's go back to the living room," she said, beginning to wheel her mother away.

but before they could reenter the living room, her mother began coughing violently. and in the blink of an eye, heejin had already grabbed the nearest trashcan, watching slowly as her mother's coughs grew to bloody puke.

"it'll be okay, mom."
