                           Chapter Six

Cora and Brat were driving on the high way in their Toyota Yaris, to pick up Annie from the hostel but they didn’t know that she has left a day before. Pinkie and Fred weren’t at the hostel either; they were sitting in the bus going to the beach. Lana and Pete didn’t pick up any calls; they were busy with the planning of their wedding which should take place on the New Year party on the beach. All the people they knew were invited, Cora, Pinkie and Annie were the bride maids. It was a big surprise that the family and close friends were going to get to know on Christmas Eve dinner at Mikes’.

Cora and Brat have now reached the hostel; they both got out of the car together. Viktor and Tess walked by arm in arm. Brat was irritated. He called- “Viktor is that you?” Viktor turned around and looked at Brat he didn’t seem to recognize him.  “Depends on, who you are.”-Viktor answered Brat.  Brat was confused but he answered that arrogance was known to him. “I’m Brat Spikes, Frank’s son.”-he said. Viktor seemed to remember-“Wow, you grew up and seem to have come after your mother. Sorry Brat the last time, I saw you, you must have been six.”  Brat smiled and answered-“Yes, you are right. Didn’t expect seeing you here and you haven’t changed at all, except your style.”  Viktor grinned and walked away. He hasn’t changed in deed, he didn’t become even a day older but that was like that since five hundred years already.  His styles changed the people his friends died or at some point didn’t know of him anymore. He was a vampire but he didn’t like to hang out them. He fell in love with Tess but didn’t want her to become a monster so fast, she has been too young but sooner or later he would have done so anyway so it seemed alright to him. Brat and Cora walked to Annie’s door and knocked, a young girl saw them and said-“Miss Smith has left yesterday with her friend and hasn’t come back yet, I figure they will spend the holidays together.”

Cora was disappointed; Annie has never gone away without informing about change of plans. She wouldn’t have been pissed or anything. She turned to Brat-“Something’s wrong, it’s not like her.”  “Relax Cora; we’ll see her at Mikes’ anyway.”-Brat calmed her offering her a joint. “Maybe you are right Brat, but I don’t trust that Mimi or whatever her name is.”-Cora stated. “I don’t know which problem you have with Annie’s friend.”-Brat said disinterested.  “Don’t tell me you haven’t noticed how that girl looks at you, Brat.”-Cora snapped. “Baby, you know I love you and that many girls in her age look at me like she does. She’s a nice girl that’s all.”-Brat was trying to calm her. “I don’t care about the others. They don’t stare at me thinking “get out of the way”. She’s not nice, unless you think she’ll be a cool sidekick.”-Cora angrily said. Brat was really pissed hearing this- “Cora, I love you, why should I think about having a sidekick with someone else, huh?”  “I’ve heard all say you are unfaithful say the same thing.”-Cora attacked hi m. “You are so sure of it, right? That sounds like you are having a sidekick.”-Brat defended himself. “No, I don’t.”-Cora stated.

Both kept silent in the car and later when they reached home Cora was still pissed and not wanting to say a word. Brat made potato salad with radishes and tuna, they way Cora liked it.  Cora ate slowly and trying not to notice Brat. “Cora, you look funny now. My gosh that’s reason I love you.”-Brat said smiling trying to make Cora laugh and forget her anger from the noon.  Cora looked at him with a serious expression; she took a deep breath and then said-“Oh, you think it’s that easy Brat, you prepare my favorite food, say something amusing and I’ll forgot all from this afternoon.”  “Yes because there was never any issue between us and I don’t see any know either.”-Brat said disappointed. “That’s how you see it. But I think the problem is that all was too perfect to be true between us from the very start. I should have noticed it.”-Cora backfired.  “Nice way of thinking when something goes well, something must not be alright.”-Brat breathed. Again both kept quite without exchanging a word.
