 Chapter Twelve

It was midnight, the sky was pitching black. Not a single star was shinning and the moon had disappeared too.  Brat was asleep, deep like a child. The witch sensed scorn in the air and feared that The Cursed Veil Council might be planning a revenge for having taken the life of one of the elders, Viktor Collins.  Mimi was seeing into her e-mail inbox, she noticed a mail from Pinkie and started reading it:

Hi Mimi,

I have been eagerly wanted to write you since we left Marrakech and travelled to Tanzania. It’s really hot here and everyone stares at Andrew and me. It’s funny we are the tourists here and seem to be the main attraction. In spite of being red like a lobster and somehow trying to learn the language, we are doing fine.

You should come over; voodoo seems to be very interesting. I have been meeting a few women practicing it. At first they said that I’m in danger as my aura was revealing the wolf. I have heard that this kind of supernatural part of me can be removed with some rituals. I feel like I should at least give it a try. I’m a werewolf and don’t know much about witchcraft. Can you tell if it is a risk or not?  I mean I don’t want Andrew to lose a beloved one again. Enough people have departed from us lately.

By the way, how is Annie? Bah! Don’t even know why I’m asking this. I’m not ever going to talk to her ever anyhow.  Guess it’s just curiosity and interest if you still see around sometimes. How is Brat? I hope he appreciates you being there for him.

I might be returning to Scotland next week and Andrew wants to switch profession. I think he still feels guilty for what happened to Lilith and doesn’t want the story to repeat. Will he ever understand that it wasn’t his fault?  On the other hand it’s good that he wants to start with a fresh page.

Hugs,

Pinkie

Mimi was almost exploding of rage after she finished reading the mail. She was happy that Pinkie has written to her as Lana’s hate towards Mimi could almost be sensed through walls and from kilometers away. Annie had been disappointed and saw a friend in Mariposa. What the hell is going on? Voodoo is demonic has nothing to with witchcraft according to her. It never saved anyone or cured then of something supernatural. Why does even Pinkie want to “start a new”?   Mimi made herself a cup of tea and then returned to her computer.  She sipped her cup and was slowly relaxing as she started to write a reply to Pinkie:

Hello Pinkie,

I’m so happy to have a received a mail from you after you left two weeks ago.  Glad that you are having a good time but I miss you here. Brat doesn’t talk much, he is very calm. I don’t know if he appreciates my affection and care for him. He always seemed dreamy and out of this world but that is what makes him special. He will start work as an Arts & Crafts teacher in autumn.

Do you really feel that Tanzania will be the right place for me to go holidays? It’s not. I’m worried after hearing that your skin is sunburned. Ouch! That might hurt when you need to transform yourself. Please take care there.

I would suggest you to come back here as soon as possible; Voodoo is very evil and dangerous. Please do not undergo any rituals there. I’m sorry that I can’t change you into a human. The good/bad part is that I sense vampire scorn in the air; this means that werewolves are a good company to keep currently.  I know you hate it.

I was astonished that you asked how Annie is doing. She wants to know what exactly has happened to Cora and Billie; she is asking everyone about it. People here believe it was murder and that the murderer is still out there. Fear is in their eyes. They try to distract themselves because just like they don’t know what killed Cora.  They don’t like to be asked these questions.

There is something that worries me more. Some are restless and fierce even in death and can cause harm from there. We must be very careful. You do know that you shouldn’t tell Andrew anything about this, right? I know you won’t. It seems to still be my habit to poke you at times.

Hugs,

Mimi

Brat was muttering something in his sleep and then woke up.  “ Mimi!”-he called exhausted.  “What happened dear?”-Mimi responded softly and sat herself on the bed and put his head into her lap. “It’s the nightmares.”-Brat said in a terrified tone.  “I know dear.”-Mimi consoled. “They are coming.”-Brat’s voice faded away. “Try to rest darling.”-Mimi said softly and concerned. “We should warn Annie.”-Brat stated alert. “It will be of no use darling, so or so we can’t prevent it.”-Mimi said disappointed.  “Why is it always her faith?”-Brat asked.  “She is my sister.”-Mimi answered.  “Too bad Cora isn’t there for her anymore.”-Brat said sadly and scornful. “I’m sorry about what happened to her.”-Mimi snapped.  “Don’t pretend, Mimi.”-Brat said harsh. “Am I really that cold hearted?”-Mimi asked softly.  “I don’t know. The world has lost color since that night.”-Brat said pitying. “You haven’t answered my question.”-Mimi snapped. “I did Mimi.”-Brat insisted. “Do you believe me if I tell you that I love you?”-Mimi asked. “Yes beautiful, but doesn’t change the world.”-Brat answered. “I like how you say things.”-Mimi said happy.  Brat sighed and tried to sleep again.

Mimi switched of all the lights and her computer. She lay down beside Brat but couldn’t sleep. She had so many things on her head and felt guilty for a few things that happened.  She wasn’t any better than Viktor, just like him she liked to be mean and unconcerned.  Being a witch she had people more under control than the vampires. They had reasons for vengeance. Pinkie will not be able to protect her, she is too weak. If she chose to protect Annie and send her away, the bait will be Brat. She didn’t want to pull him into it. He should only feel love and start seeing beauty in the world again. He deserves it.  Mimi knew that he was still grieving for Cora, though he did not show. He wanted to please her but his face couldn’t hide. His Silence made it even more obvious. Poor  him.
