Chapter Twenty-three

Annie got into her car and drove to Esmeralda’s cottage. She wanted to know if Fred was right about what he said about her and her purpose in Gretna. If that was true she would feel betrayed. That would mean that he had no friends and she would hate that. When Esmeralda saw her, she greeted Annie with excitement.

“Why are you so happy today?”-Annie asked.

“Well, I had an amazing night and I wanted to call but you are here, so it’s beautiful afternoon.”-Esmeralda stated.  

“Actually I’m not here for small talk.”-Annie cut in.

“Ok then tell me what bothers you.”-Esmeralda said a bit annoyed that her excitement was stopped.

“It’s about Fred. He got message from you this morning and rushed to Mara Collins.”-Annie said stern.

“That was the witch that freed Brad from Mimi’s spell.”-Esmeralda stated.

“And why should Fred meet her?”-Annie asked.

“Mara says he had some visions but she is powerful witch so all should be alright.”-Esmeralda said unconcerned.

“Ok but that doesn’t explain why he claims that you are vampire.”-Annie snapped.

“Well dear I am, and Viktor wants Mimi to die because she killed him.”-Esmeralda said.

“So you only came here to kill her?”-Annie asked shocked.

“I can’t kill her; she has protective spells on her.”-Esmeralda said. 

“So what is your plan?”-Annie asked.

“Viktor is not the only one who wants revenge. Now why do you think Brad was arrested?”-Esmeralda said as it was normal.  

“You mean that since he is free from the spell, he thinks that Mimi is responsible for Cora’s death?”-Annie asked surprised.

“Yes Annie, that’s exactly what is going on.”-Esmeralda said in a satisfied tone. 

“Then we must prevent it.”-Annie tried to convey her friend.

“No!”-Esmeralda said stern.

“Why not? Blood for blood is not the way to solve things.”-Annie said convinced.

“I’m sorry Annie, there is no other way as we need to prevent that Mimi gets stronger.”-Esmeralda said in a sad tone. 

Tears filled Annie’s eyes. Mimi was her friend and although she was a bit disappointed about her she still liked her. Apart from that Mimi was her half sister. It was not always right what Mimi did and how she abused being a witch at time, but she was a loving human being after all. Or was Annie wrong? It was clearly too much to take for her, so she ran out of Esmeralda’s house still sobbing. She got into her car and started to drive but her concentration was not on the road.  She ran her car frontal into a truck. The car was totally damaged and within seconds her breath was getting slower. This is it, she has to die now. 

Esmeralda couldn’t let her friend leave the house sobbing and decided to follow her. She got worried when she realized that Annie was driving way too fast. She saw the crash and stopped her vehicle to run right towards Annie. The truck driver only had minor wounds and called an ambulance. Esmeralda checked Annie pulse and sensed that it was almost gone. She bit into her wrist and let her blood drip into Annie’s mouth.  The heavy injuries started to heal and after a few minutes Annie opened her eyes.  Esmeralda freed her from the car. The sirens of the ambulance were heard. Esmeralda compelled the truck driver that he didn’t see anything.  She drove off with Annie on her back seat.
