Hear the mind's need

"Anak, are you ready?"

Napabaling ako sa pintuan at nakakasiguro akong si mommy ang kumakatok. I look once more at the mirror to check myself. I am wearing a newly bought a tea-length dress.

It is really pretty! I like its big ribbon at my front, following the organza sleeve of my off shoulder.I don't normally wear black, but this simple yet elegant dress fits me so well that it makes me excited to attend the evening party.

Binili lang namin ito yesterday ni mommy sa flagship boutique nito, it wasn't my first choice but when I tried it, mom immediately told me to buy it.

"Yes, Mommy. Let's go na!" I yelled a bit.

I opened my bedroom door and giggled at my mom.

Pinasadahan ko ang ayos niya, "You're so pretty, mommy!"

"Of course, anak!" sagot niya at ngumiti. I smiled too, I got my confidence from my mom.

We headed down the stairs, doon namin sinalubong si daddy na maganda ang ngiting nakatutok na sa amin. He seems to be waiting for us for a while. He couldn't even take his eyes away from us! Of course! Beautiful girls are walking closer to you, bakit hindi ka mapapangiti?

I confidently stride down a bit faster to dad. Sinalubong ko agad si daddy ng halik sa cheek niya. Ganoon rin si mommy and compliments followed after. Saglit lang, agad din kaming tumungo sa labas para makaalis na papuntang party. Halos kalahating oras din ang tinagal ng byahe.  Enough time for my dad to remind me of stuffs I shouldn't do later.

"You'll behave there anak, ha? Don't put a fight," pagpapaalala ni daddy. Ilang beses na.

We all knew that my so-called old friends will be there too! I just nodded. As if I wanted to talk with those girls again, their so fake kaya. All they do is flaunt their new things tapos kapag magko-komento ako na hindi ko like 'yong color sasabihan nila ako ng inggitera? I'm just being honest! Why would I be inggit though? My parents can buy me those limited edition bags too. But it's not where my interest is at.

I'd rather be alone than friends with those girls. Mommy also told me that I should find friends that will help me in good things not in bad! And they are not good!

Sa pag-iisip ko, hindi ko namalayan ang pagdating namin kung hindi pa ako tinawag ni mommy. I puffed my cheeks and went down the car, inalalayan ako ng driver namin bago ako nakasunod sa parents ko. The excitement I felt earlier toned down remembering the "friends" from before.

I gasped when a huge mansion welcomed my eyes. The place shows richness because of the businessmen in their designer suits, ganoon din ang mga babae na nagkikintaban ang mga suot na dresses. Elegancy is etched on every surface. Kumpara sa mansion namin, mas malaki ito. The construction looks more extravagant compared to others' mansions to be unnoticed. I've seen a lot of houses, and mansions as huge as this. I've always been interested to buildings, structures and stuffs related to these kaya mabilis kong mapansin.

Pinagsawa ko ang mata ko sa bawat detalye sa interior ng mansyon, hinayaan ko na ang mga magulang ko na iwanan ako sa lamesa. I'm busy admiring the place. Every corner from the outside was beautified for the party but it didn't hide what this mansion could solely offer.

"Hi, Zallistine!"

Saglit kong binalingan ang lalaki. He's familiar but I don't know his name.

I look up around to search for my parents only to see them already talking with businessmen. Well, that's the reason naman nga why kami uma-attend ng business party.

"Hello," I shortly replied.

Hindi naman kami close, no need for dramatic conversation. Nakikita ko lang siya sometimes sa hallway ng school, other than that wala na akong care.
