Chapter 15 - Maddie and the main stage

The next morning I woke up and set this week’s video on schedule upload because I would be out when it had to be uploaded and I went for a shower. Today was the first day of my new image. Sam had invited the boys over to watch our performance on the main stage and for dinner all together that night, Luke said he would come and no doubt Emily would be there too.

I got dressed to go to playlist. Lori helped me pick out what I was going to wear.

I decided on a mildly short dress and platform heels. I pulled my anchor necklace from my bag. I present Luke gave me for my birthday a year ago, it was something I always loved and I wanted to wear it today, see if it would strike any chords with him.

I went all out on make-up which wasn’t something I normally did, a red, glossy lip and Smokey eyes. My nose piercing stayed as it had been.

I put up my hair in a loose pony-tail to make it look effortless.

Lori chose her regular outfit, which was usually a dress and the other girls got changed too.

We walked down to the cars together and vlogged. When we walked out of the door there was a huge cheer from fans. We couldn’t stay and sign stuff but we got a few yells from the crowd and people telling us we looked great, a couple of wolf whistles. I just laughed and got into the car.

The convention centre was already full when we got there and it was very difficult to get places. We were pushed through the crowds and into the green room again. There was a lot of noise and people rushing places.

I could hear the cheers from the main stage already. We had about 2 hours before we had to be on the stage and I was so nervous.

We all walked up and down going through our lines and what we wanted to say. We spent the rest of our time lounging on the sofas and singing old songs we knew, and laughing at bad jokes. Playlist was so much fun and I was so excited for DigiFest and VidCon. VidCon was huge and to be invited to go was incredible.

Two hours passed by in a heartbeat and before we knew it we were being lead backstage. I could hear the crowds screaming. I took a few deep breaths. I wasn’t nervous, this kind of thing didn’t really scare me, and I just felt worried about the boys being in the audience. Was Luke going to be there? I doubt it. Like Emily would let him be there.

As much as I hated him for leaving with her, I loved him so much.

“Okay ladies” A woman from behind us said, “when you’re ready”

We looked at each other and took a deep breath before walking out on stage together. Everyone screamed.

It was so dark and all I could see were the lights form peoples phones. It was blinding. I felt like I was on stage at a concert.

“Hey everyone!” yelled Lori and the crowd yelled back “Are you doing good?” and they screamed again “I’m going to assume both answers, if you said yes then can I get a woo!” and everyone screamed, “If you said no can I get a woo” and there was silence.

“I don’t think anybody’s having a bad time Lori” Violet said and the crowd screamed at the sound of her voice.

“Do you guys want to get on with it now?” Sam said and the crowd screamed again, I stepped forward

“Hello everyone, this is Sam, Vi, Lori and I’m Adi!” and there was more screaming. It made me so happy that people were excited to see us. “We are here today because… well why are we here Lori?”

“Lord knows I don’t have a clue” Lori laughed, “Vi?”
“I got nothing, Sam?” Violet asked
“Oh and you think I’m going to know.” scoffed Sam

“Basically, we have absolutely no idea why we’re here but we are so hello!” I said and there was another cheer. We went straight into the act, we told stories and made jokes and bad puns, the crowd groaned with us at Lori’s poor attempts to be funny and we all had so much fun.

Just as the act was finishing I said, “Thank you so much you guys, this was great, see you on the tubes!”
“Wait!” yelled Sam
“What?” I was confused. This was definitely not part of the act.
“Wait here” she said and she ran backstage. I looked at the girls and silently questioned if they knew what was going on, they shook their heads.

Sam ran back out with four extra mic stands and then looked into the crowd, as if she was searching for somebody.

“Ok!” she said, “who wants to come up on stage?” and there was a huge cheer. “We have some scouts going round now picking you out to come on stage. We want a Colour” there was a huge cheer [Colours were Violet’s fans] “We want a Loria” there was another cheer from another area of the room [Lori’s fans] “Of course we want a Sammie” the same thing happened again [take a guess] “and last but definitely not least, a Somebody” and there was another cheer from another corner of the room.

This was so cute, she wanted to bring people on stage to talk to us. I was wondering who would come up when I had an idea,

“Hang on!” I yelled, I could see the scouts going out to pick people, “Maddie?!” I yelled and there was a scream from a corner of the room.
“I met a girl yesterday, Maddie, I gave her a job but I didn’t check if she had done it. Maddie where are you love?” I looked out to the crowd and heard a cheer again from a specific corner of the room. I squinted and I could just about make out Maddie jumping up and down in the corner of the room. I laughed and I saw my scout looking at me, confused, “Can I get Maddie up here please?” I asked and the scout nodded, walking in the direction of the screams.

Once we had everyone on stage, Maddie gave me a huge hug and she told me she had done it and she had tweeted me but I never replied. I explained that I was super busy last night and I hadn’t even had time to check twitter.

We played some games with the fans, a lot of it involved silly string and timers and vlogging together. It was a lot of fun and when it finished it was kind of sad. Just as Maddie was leaving she whispered something to me.

“You look a lot different”
“I’m trying something new”
“Are you trying to impress a guy?”
“More trying to win one back”
“Is it Luke”
“No”
“It is isn’t it? We all know you guys have a thing”
“I’m going to tell you something, and you have to promise to keep it a secret”
“Ok”
“Luke has a girlfriend sweetie, they haven’t told the press yet so you have to keep it low key.”
“That doesn’t stop the guy you’re trying to impress from being Luke”
“It isn’t Luke”
“You sure?”
“Ok that’s enough out of you. Go back to your seat, I love you a lot and thank you for coming on stage”
“I just wanted to ask something”
“Yes?”
“Why did you want me to get the poster? What do I do with it now?”
“I asked you to do that because I knew that after a while you would get tired of collecting signatures and want to go home, but when you got home you would regret not collecting them all. You needed something to collect them for. And so I tried to give you that and now you have a poster with YouTubers signatures on that everybody is going to be jealous of”
“I love you so much”

I hugged her hard and said goodbye before she went back to her seat and I collapsed on a sofa in the green room.

Were my feelings for Luke really that obvious?
