Chapter 10 - I knew

My face dropped when I saw who it was,

Luke,

But I had to quickly pick it back up again, and I couldn’t let him know I was upset.

He backed away from the camera “No paparazzi, please” he covered his face and I laughed, I let him in.

“And here we have a wild Huke Lemmings” I said in my David Attenborough voice “See how the long legged creature takes big strides to assert his dominance, as if his hair doesn’t do that already. He, oddly, is not in his natural habitat of ‘the kitchen’ and has emerged so he can see a follow friend”
“Actually I’m here to see if you have any food” he said
“Well I don’t” I said bluntly.

I pretended to interview him for a bit, asking about his shows and making jokes. Eventually I turned off the camera and sat on my bed, he came and sat next to me.

“I’m hungry” he said
“You’re always hungry” I laughed, “Me too”
“Well, I’m taking the guys out for dinner to meet Emily,”

The way he said her name made me want to cry,

“I was going to ask if you and the girls wanted to come”

I didn’t want to. But I had to. I was his best friend, I had to be there for him, even if that meant meeting the girl I was jealous of.

“Of course we would.” I smiled at him and he beamed back “What time?”
“Well, it’s like 8.30 now, so I’ll pick you guys up around 10?”
“Sounds good”
“Cool. I have to go but I’ll see you later?”
“You sure will!”

And he was gone. As soon as he was, I collapsed on my bed and groaned. Mainly at the fact that I had to go to a meal and meet this girl but also because my response was ‘you sure will’.

I’m so done.

I called Lori and when she picked up I could hear lots of voices,

“Adi? Are you okay?”
“Yeah. Luke just came up here, probably came through the back entrance so he wouldn’t get noticed but he asked if we all wanted to go to a meal with the guys and,” I took a deep breath before saying her name,

“Emily”

Lori was silent for a second “What did you say to him?”
“I said yes. He’s picking us up at 10”
“I’ll get the girls, we’ll be up in 5”
“Thanks” and I hung up.

Lori wasn’t kidding when she said they would be here in 5.

We started talking about what we were going to wear and what we thought she was going to be like.

The girls said that she would be horrible but we all knew that wasn’t going to be true. Luke was in love with her, there’s no way she was going to be a bad person.

I was about to give up and say that I wasn’t going to go when Sam told me to wait. She went into her room to get something. She came back a couple of minutes with a beautiful cream dress with jewelled detailing under the bust and along the top of it. It looked like somebodies prom dress.

“Holy crap Sam” my eyes widened as we all saw the dress.
“Where did you get that?!” Asked Violet
“I bought it for when Ash took me out somewhere but I figure Addison needs it more than I do right now. I want you to wear it to dinner tonight” she said
“What? I’m going to dinner not a ball” I was surprised
“Hey. Do you want Luke?”
“Of course I do but what’s a dress going to do? And anyway. I don’t want to take him away from Emily”

Sam sighed. She walked over and sat next to me.

“Adi. You’re beautiful, and funny and fantastic and I love you and the fact he says he doesn’t confuses us all. A lot.” the others nodded in agreement “Consider the dress as an experiment. You wear this to dinner and we observe him and how he reacts”
