Chapter 22: Low-key

Friday, September 7, 2018, 20:00 PHT

"Thanks for the ride. Ingat pauwi." I waved my hands at Lucas. He nodded his head before he slid up the window of his car.

As we took the road, we had talked about random things. I found out that he was a campus journalist from his elementary days to his senior high school days kaya kahit malayo sa course niya ang pagjo-journalism he still joined TGC. Lucas also told me that he'd help me to write sports articles without 'bayad', and I kidded him with: wow thanks ha, the treat means a lot. Free daw yon except sa ngiti niya. Grabe talaga. I wasn't aware that I was smiling because of that thought. Anyway, good thing pinapasok ang kotse ni Lucas dito sa subdivision, if not baka naglakad pa ako.

    "Hoy Ate sino 'yon?"

"Ay payong! Anong ginagawa mo dito?" I almost jump when Anne shows in front of me.

"We're having sleepover." She innocently answers me but her eyebrows knit. "Sino 'yon?" She asks me again.

"That's Lucas. Let's go inside, umuulan na naman." We both ascended into our house, going to the living room. Ayokong mabato ng tsinelas ni Mommy sa noo so I slipped my feet in my slippers.

"Ate! Nandito kanina 'yung Lucas na binanggit mo!" Anne shouts.

"Binanggit sa'yo ng Ate mo si Lucas?" I glance at her. We take the stairs to go up into the second floor.

"Yes, kaya kami nandito para magtanong about Lucas." Anne giggles at me so I shake my head in amazement.

No Javi issues? Finally?! It's a relief then!

"Have you eaten dinner?" I ask her before kami salubungin ni Sofia.

"Yes, kanina nung nandito pa si ate Joy. Umalis na siya, hinatid ni tita Rina sa bahay nila ate Adie." I made a mental note to text Adie to say sorry that I didn't make it tonight.

"TOTOO BA?" Sofia's eyes are wide, asking for confirmation.

"Alin ba?" I ask while I am unlocking the door of my room. We go inside as I push it open. I turn on the lights, and the darker shade of pink LED lights lit in the corners and sides of my room, giving me the vibe of my own sanctuary. Immediately, the sweet scent of strawberry mixed with morning freshness of lavender fills my nostrils to calm my body. This is my haven. After a long day, finally!

"'Don sa Lucas 'yung kotse nag-stop d'yan kanina?! So he sent you home??" Sofia said, frantically.

"Kalma lang. Oo kay Lucas 'yon." I went into my mini study room to take off my uniform, but I left the door slightly open so that I could talk to them while I was taking my things out of my bag. "Anne, paki sara nga 'yung pinto ng kwarto." As soon as I said it, narinig ko na sumara ang pinto ng kwarto ko.

"Bakit hindi mo man lang inaya dito sa bahay? Ano ba 'yan 'te! Walang hospitality?" Sofia complains and I laugh at her reaction.

"Nagmamadali din 'yon kasi baka abutan ng malakas na ulan!" I shout but it is only enough for them to hear it, kasi papasok na ako sa cr to wash myself. I locked the doors, the one to my bedroom and other one that connects the two small rooms.

"Sabagay.." I heard Sofia. I already took off my clothes before I turned on the shower and let the water ran down my body. This is refreshing, a warm running water to relieve my stress.

"Ate Ceska, sana pinakilala mo man lang kami. Kami lang naman ni Ate ang nandito ngayon." Anne shouts.

"Oh? Bakit hindi kasama sila Paula?" I yell while I am washing my hair with my strawberry shampoo. This scene is really nostalgic, and I never want to miss it.
