The power had gone out a few minutes after they had made it into the vent to make it to Level 3. Emori had tried her best not to hyperventilate at the feeling of the walls around her, and though Jasper and Maya didn't notice her shaky breathing Bellamy sure did.
Bellamy pushed the vent door open as soon as some people rushed by it and helped the others out. "The last twelve are on this level" he stated as he grabbed onto Emori's hand and helped her out.
Jasper came out next, "Including Monty. Which way?" Jasper questioned and helped Maya out of the vent.
"This way," Maya said as she pointed down a hallway. Emori watched as Bellamy glanced in down the hallway.
"I'll check it, you stay here with them," Emori told Bellamy as she moved down the hallway holding tightly onto her knife. She rounded the corner into another hallway and noticed it was empty. She checked all the rooms in the hallway noticing no one was around and that the level was clear, at least that's what she had thought. She suddenly heard a gunshot and a scream and ran down the hallway and back to where she left Bellamy and the other two to see they were no longer there.
"Bellamy" Emori whisper yelled in worry but received no answer. She moved further down the hall and rounded the corner to see them standing in front of a dead woman and another boy crouching over the body. "Is that him" Emori questioned startling the two men in front of her who had aimed their guns at her quickly before sighing in relief at seeing her. "Yeah. Okay, where the others" Emori asked as she went to stand next to Jasper.
"They know about the Harvest Chamber" Jasper muttered and Emori's eyes widened before she glanced at Bellamy who had a pensive look on his face.
"If they take it we lose everyone" Bellamy muttered and Emori could feel her heartbeat quicken at the thought of losing all her people. Without a second thought Emori began sprinting down the hall leaving the others behind, but Bellamy was quick to follow.
The group quickly made it to the harvest chamber and barged in. Emori looked around hoping to see all her people there, but to her surprise everything was empty. Not one person was around and Emori could feel the dread and the worry in her began to rise as her heart dropped. Many questions ran through her mind as she tried to piece together what could have possibly happened. Then the ear-splitting scream echoed through the room and Emori turned to Maya who was crouched before her father's lifeless body, sobbing frantically.
Emori turned away from the scene as the tears began to pool in her eyes. She stared at all the empty cages in despair that she didn't even notice when Bellamy stood next to her as he too stared at all the empty cages in both anger and pain.
"I'm sorry" Bellamy stated softly as he watched a year slip down her cheek and fall onto the railing in front of her. All they could hear were the sobs of Maya behind the duo as she cried for her fallen father.
"Bellamy" Emori mumbled quietly, the tone of pain clear in his ears. "Yeah" he mumbled softly, "What now," she asked as she turned to look at him. "I don't know" he muttered in despair and Emori began to grow angry.
