third person povben had woken up to a quiet house which he wasn't used to. he could imagine the sound of his parents yelling and screaming at each other.
tatum was downstairs in the living room watching a show and eating breakfast. she glared at him for a few seconds and then looked back at the tv.
he could tell the girl was mad at him. "why are you the one mad at me when I was one who woke up from your music?" she scoffed as he opened the fridge. "reminder you're in who's house??" tate said.
ben grabbed some milk and then found some cereal in the pantry. "why is this cereal so stale?" he asked.
"we haven't been grocery shopping in a few weeks.." the curly haired boy suddenly got an idea. "well, why don't we go to the store for your parents. i remember your dad saying he has a meeting, plus i have money."
tate looked up at him and sighed, "do i really have to go? i'm kinda busy today." by 'busy' she meant binge watching all 10 seasons of american horror story.
" i mean you do live here. you know where everything is right?" ben asked. just then, matthew walked into the living room. "hey kiddos. what's going on?"
"well we were thinking of going grocery shopping for you and mrs. parker since you guys seem busy." ben explained. "that seems like a great idea! tate why don't you show ben around the town too?"
"fine. i guess it'll be nice to get out the house" tate groaned. it was true she hasn't left the house in almost 3 weeks. it'll be nice for some fresh air she thought.

tate walked to ben's car and sat in the passenger seat. ben turned the radio on, "you're telling me they only play country music?" he cringed. "i know that's why i hate living here. there's nothing good in this town." she replied.
tate ended up giving ben directions towards downtown millcaster. the only place that was tolerable in this town she always says.
"park here." she said. she walked out the car and as soon as ben was out, she started leading him towards a bunch of vintage shops.
"this is my favorite place ever." tate said in awe.
within 4 hours they probably went to every store in the area. they went thrifting and tried a bunch of food. ben had to admit it was fun. tate was a really fun person to be around.
they walked down back to ben's car and started heading towards a resturant that tate claimed was the best spot in town.
they passed by a billboard that read "JUNE 30TH: MILLCASTER SUMMER FAIR. FOOD, RIDES, AND GAMES." ben glanced over and asked what that was.
tate sighed and said, "oh that's just a stupid fair, there's barely any rides and the food is gross. me and my best friends riley and peyton go every year though. my sister came with us as well."
she got choked up at the fact she casually brought up kailey. tate wondered if ben knew about the accident. i mean probably, dad left work for a while.
ben said, "we should go it seems fun" tate shook her head and said, "i am not trying to see people from school this year."
-
"honestly i like the vibes of this town. it isn't like the city where there's traffic everywhere and careless people. millcaster is a cute town and everyone knows each other. there's barely traffic and a lot of beautiful nature." ben said.
millcaster was a small suburb city about 45 minutes from the city. ben's lived in the city his whole life. it was nice not dealing with chaos for once.
the girl smiled and said, "yeah, i guess that's one good thing about millcaster.." they both finished up their milkshakes and soon headed off to the first place they were originally supposed to go, the grocery store.
-
after they got home, jenn and matthew were on the sofa watching a movie, but it seemed like jenn was in her own world. "there you guys are! you took forever to come home." matt said. "sorry dad i showed him around like you said. plus we did get groceries." tate smiled.
"it's fine. i'm just glad we finally have eggs again. thanks guys. ben, how much did it all cost?" matt asked. "oh no you don't need to pay me back mr. parker." ben said.
tate couldn't help but giggle. hearing her dad being referred to as mr. parker sounded so funny. he's only ever been dad or matthew parker.
that night, tate knocked on ben's room and walked in when he said come in.
"hey." she said softly. "hi." he replied. "sorry for yelling at you last night. i'm just- i got mad for no reason-" she apologized.
"it's fine. i'm over it." ben said. "you know.. today was really fun." tate mumbled. "yeah i had a lot of fun too." ben agreed with a smile on his face. "I'm glad you're staying here."
