"Sei, how was your day?"
"Perfect" was always her answer. Every time she got through the day within the limits of her programmed set of dialogues that would be her answer.
Bokuto was dribbling the ball, lost in thought while he sat on the bench. His thought his mind was deceiving him and he kept replaying the scene over and over again. He didn't see Seikan again after orientation and it was already past two weeks but he hadn't seen her still. He'd ask Akaashi and he'd tell her how he had to sit beside her almost motionless figure all day. He didn't have much to tell about her but Bokuto would listen to it with so much wonder.
He couldn't take his mind off of the first time he saw her in the eye. She had the eyes of a dead man, but he could swear he saw a faint glint of light appear in her eyes when he told her how nice her eyes were. He wasn't meaning to say it out loud but he was so stunned by it, he was almost pissed when she asked him if he was scared. It was surreal for him. He wouldn't buy what Akaashi told him about her, that moment of sparkle in her eyes, which he was unsure of, told him otherwise and he was placing his bets on what his mind chose to believe than what his ears picked up. He was pure like that. Unadulterated, bright, smiley and shiny. Every single thing she wasn't.
He even forced Akaashi to be her project partner because nobody picked her.
"You're digging my grave, Bokuto san" he flatly said.
"Akaashiii don't be so mean... I'm sure she's nice"
"That's because you don't see her in class"
Since Akaashi lived alone Bokuto always crashed at his place.
"Bokuto san, I hope you don't mind me." He almost had a sour face "I got a guest with me"
"Since when do you have guests ov-" his tongue tied when he saw Seikan behind him. "Don't mind me, I'm just here to finish the project" she coldly bowed greeting him and he just stood there gawking. He looked at Akaashi with wide eyes who just raised his hands in surrender and went to the kitchen "Tendou chan, would you like some tea?"
"No, but thank you" she said sitting down to get all the project materials ready.
Bokuto was tripping over how soft her voice was, that was the first time he was entrapped by someone's voice. He wanted to get her to talk even more so he could hear her "Seikan chan, do you sing?" He asked and she ignored him.
Two seconds later she decided to reply because she couldn't ignore the bright, twittering boy anymore "No"
"Power, authority and governance?" Bokuto read the topic "Seikan chan, what do you think of this?"
"It's okay" she mumbled getting started. He eyed her pretty stationery as she picked up a rose gold coloured pen "Say, where'd you get these from?" He took one of her pencils and examined it.
She didn't reply. She tried to keep herself busy with work, she tried to read him like she'd do the others but for some reason she couldn't, so she chose to remain silent.
Akaashi joined not minutes later with some tea and biscuits. He paused to look at Bokuto who was comfortably seated close to her, intently watching her write with her colour pens. "Say, your handwriting is pretty" he blinked not taking his eyes off the paper. She still wouldn't answer.
Seikan didn't realise how close Bokuto's face was to her until his cheek brushed against her shoulder and she almost jumped because she hadn't seen it coming. Bokuto knew nothing about personal space whatsoever and she lightly fidgeted putting all her concentration back into writing.
"I think we should add this about transparency" Akaashi said handing her his phone and she nodded after reading the article for two minutes.
"Seikan chan, do you not like talking?" Bokuto asked and her eyes narrowed at something wrong she wrote because of his distraction.
Akaashi sighed "Bokuto san, I wish you concentrated on your own project like this"
"Oh, I'm paired with my ex. I don't want to"
"Who?" Akaashi was curious.
"Kiara" he said and Akaashi scowled. "I see... get your project here if your part isn't done yet we'll help you with it"
Bokuto soon got busy with his own project. When he was done, Seikan was still at hers. He even took some of her colour pens to decorate his piece of art. Akaashi knew that an apocalypse was coming soon.
Bokuto eyed his work and then at hers before frowning. His work looked like something out of a kindergartener's spare scrap book and he wasn't happy about it. Especially after looking at how neat theirs was turning out.
Her eyes went wide when she glanced at the disaster Bokuto dared to call his project work. She watched him write another one after discarding it with utmost discontent. When he was done again he didn't dare to try decorating it. It would look like it did the previous time, maybe even worse.
When Seikan was finally done she caught Bokuto meekily stealing glances at the garnishing in her protect. The calligraphic heading was what he was precisely eyeing. He wanted to do it too but he knew his crude hands could never function so delicately.
He didn't want her fancy letter boxes or the banners or the parenthesis vines she'd drawn so intricately. He was a simple man with a simple heart. He wanted nothing fancy. All he wished for was a cute heading. Like the one she had on her project.
She tried to ignore him but when she saw his bright orbs go dull she couldn't help feel bad. As hard hearted as she was she wasn't going to disappoint his pureness. His frown vanished when he saw her palm slowly extend towards him, asking for his project. Akaashi was taken aback by her gesture but zipped his mouth closed.
Bokuto's eyes shone like a constellation as he looked at her neatly etch the ink on his paper. His project now looked like a masterpiece. He looked at her, the heterochromatic eyes catching all his attention again. He'd never believed in love at first sight until he bumped into her. He knew nothing about her, he wasn't even her friend, he didn't even know what her favourite ramen was but he was still simping over her from the day he saw her and when she handed his now ornate project back he swore he would never get over her.
When her dull irises met his already gleaming ones she stopped to look at him with envy, and not in a bad way. She was envious of how it dazzled through everything. She always wanted both her eyes to be pink but now her thoughts did a one 180. She wanted the pink one to turn gold like the other so she could be like him too.
"Seikan chan..."
And when he smiled the thumping organ in her chest stopped "Arigato!"
