chenle stopped walking making the girl behind him bump into his broad back - sending her stumbling backwards. he turns around to be faced with a frowning hyein who had her arms crossed in front of her chest as a pout was seen on her lips

the two teenagers just got back from school after chenle's practice. as soon as the male approached her, saying he's done - she immediately bombarded him with questions such as

"is the basketball team looking for a new manager?" "what are the qualifications?" "do i need to talk to the coach?" "or should i just ask the players?"

but chenle kept silent the whole time which bothered her. she threw him her last question as they head inside the house, "can i be the new manager?" and chenle disappointed her with his firm answer

"it's a difficult job hyein. you need to take some of your free time to manage us, boys. you need to prepare our data for competitions, you need to take care of our consumption, our clothes and a lot of other stuff. chaewon noona got really tired being our manager but she stayed because no one else wanted to take her place"
"well she got her replacement now, i'm wil-"

"no hy-"
"oh come on, why are you so against of me joining?!" hyein had enough of his stupid reasons and her voice came out louder than she intended to

chenle got silent from her outburst and his mind flew everywhere as he tried to think of a logical reason. deep down inside of him, he wants her to be their manager because that means they can spend more time together but some part of him doesn't want her because that means she'll be seeing guanlin more than usual

yes, he saw their whole interaction earlier and it annoyed him a lot. another player threw the ball into the wrong direction - towards hyein. chenle wanted to run towards her but guanlin was a lot faster since he in a closer distance to her

his face was in total displeasure at the sight of him taking his time with her, especially when he - i quote chenle, 'the audacity' to ruffle her soft hair right in front of his own eyes. he felt even more annoyed when he saw how flushed hyein's face was

hyein regretted her words and sighed before taking a deep breath. "look chenle, you said i have to go to school and come home with you right? so instead of me getting bored from waiting for you to finish practice.. isn't it better if i become the next manager so i have a decent purpose to wait for you?"

chenle processed her words into his mind, and he agreed. he feels bad if the girl just waits for him practicing with only a phone as her source of entertainment. "and it also means we can spend more time together.."

hyein didn't intend for what she just mumbled to be audible for him but unfortunately for hyein, chenle heard it. hyein didn't know the male heard her as chenle broke into a smile before nodding his head at her. "fine, i'll talk to coach lee"

hyein's face brightens up as she silently squeals in happiness.

"really?! you're the best lele~"
"lele?" chenle rose a brow at the new way she called him

"lele sounds cuter, you don't lik-"
"no! uhh.. it's fine" chenle mentally cursed at how embarrassing he sounded just now before giving her a sweet smile

hyein gave no response and only smiled as she skipped past him. chenle's eyes followed her figure who was skipping while cheering silently, he lightly chuckled at her childlike actions before following her from behind to his own room

hyein was alone walking in the park, near chenle's house. the day was still bright but thankfully, the sun wasn't blazing too hot so the air felt warm with a help from the winds giving us a chill breeze

hyein silently walks as she hummed a tune from her favorite song while looking around the park. her eyes came across a happy family at the ice cream parlor not far from her, she could only see them from their backs but seeing how warmly the father held his daughter and kissed his wife's head - they look really peaceful and beaming with joy

she smiled at the heartwarming sight before averting her gaze elsewhere. then she saw two little kids playing at the playground, it was a boy and a girl. the two children held hands as they ran around the playground but then the girl stopped running and dragged her friend to where their bags were placed - under the slide

hyein grew curious on what they're doing so she silently walks towards them but still maintain a safe distance. her eyes followed the little girl's hand that was pulling out a doll from her bag, it was a dolphin doll. she saw the little girl giving it to the little boy which made him really happy so he hugged her.

"aww~" hyein silently cooed at the adorable sight in front of her until a loud scream was heard not far from her. hyein's head turned towards where the voice was and to her surprise, it came from the happy family she saw minutes earlier

her brows were knitted as she heard the little girl crying frantically while being carried by the mother. she grew even confused to hear the mother angrily shouting at the father, she couldn't see any of their faces since her vision was covered by the father's back and judging from how balled up his fists were, hyein could tell he was infuriated.

hyein debated on approaching the family or not until she heard the father say, "look, i don't love you anymore so let's divorce" hyein stopped in her tracks as she was surprised to hear that

the words felt so familiar to hyein that she felt like she heard that exact words somewhere, she just doesn't remember. her heart broke at hearing how inconsolable the little girl's cries are, she could see the little girl made grabby hands towards the father but he ignored her cries

when the father turned around, hyein turned frozen as she felt a sudden rush of shock throughout her body. the father walked away leaving the two females as hyein was still recovering from the shock she just had. but she became even more shock when she finally saw the mother's and child's faces that were covered before he left

it was her and her mother, and that man... was her father
