Continuation of Bounty Hunters - III
This chapter does not appear in the show, so it won't have an episode to be based of.
Mary was one of the mysteries that the Doctor want to unravel as soon as possible yet simultaneously he wanted to take his sweet time, he wanted to let her open up herself, he wondered how many secrets she kept and if he would learn all of them when the time came.
Hemna placed two plates on the table, in front of each of them, giving them a happy smile as he sat down on the remaining free chair, his eyes watched as the Doctor's blue eyes didn't leave Mary's figure for long, something that he had not seen him do since the time that he brought his family before the destruction of Gallifrey, it was the same look he had given his wife all those years ago.
As soon as the plate touched the table, Mary was delighted by the sweet aroma that originated from the pie, it was truly mouth-watering and the few small berries that sat atop the slice of pie looked were brilliant pastel blue, shimmering in the light of the cafe, the pie itself was a mixture of golden cream crust and galaxy coloured sweetness with bits of moonberries inside.
Both aliens held their breath as they waited for Mary to take a bite of the pie, something she did after she was done admiring it, she cut a decent piece and picked it up with her fork bringing it to her lips and eating it. Her brown eyes widened as a plethora of flavours she had definitely never tasted on earth greeted her palate, a low hum resonating from the back of her throat.
Her shoulders sagged as if all the weight that they carried slipped off them for a mere moment, her posture becoming less guarded as she allowed herself to be utterly devoted to the pie before her.
The Doctor and Hemna chuckled at her reaction, the Doctor taking a bit of his own pie while Hemna commented "Always the same reaction from new customers, never gets old." the dark-skinned woman hummed once more before setting her fork down and cleaning her mouth, "How does one come up with this delicacy?" She questioned honestly, her brown eyes locked with the winged alien next to her.
"It's a family recipe." Hemna replied, beaming with pride, a smile that a normal human being would consider truly scary and slightly maniacal, but not Mary, she saw it for was it was a true and prideful smile. "Is there any chance you could share it?" she questioned kindly, giving the winged man a small and shy smile.
Hemna stood still for a moment, pondering if he should or not, before getting up and flying away, "If he gives you the recipe, you will be the first person he shares it with." the Doctor confessed, setting his fork down after finished his pie completely. "He hasn't shared it with you?" Mary quizzed, raising her brow at him before taking another bite of her pie, chewing slowly in order to savour the taste better.
"Never and I've known him for quite a long time now." The Doctor confessed, peering over his shoulder to where he knew Hemna's office to be, turning back to be greeted by a smirking Mary, "You've been his friend for so long and he has never shared his family recipe with you, yet he might share it with me, who he just met." she teased him. If Hemna did share the recipe with Mary, the Doctor could understand why he would do it, there was nothing that shouted that Mary was a horrible person.
And Hemna would know better than anyone, he was a great judge of character, more than any alien the Doctor had met and that was actually going a long way because he had met a lot of them.
