Continuation of Bounty Hunters - IV
This chapter does not appear in the show, so it won't have an episode to be based of.
"Hemna mentioned something earlier," Mary started, her voice soft and low, as if she was talking to an easily irritable animal, the Doctor's blue eyes locked with hers, only for a moment before she casted her rich brown eyes down towards her now empty plate, a certain sign of submission, "He said that you'd changed your face."
At her words the mad man that owned a space box hummed slightly, understanding why she was acting the way she was, she felt like she was intruding in his life and in a clear way she was, but not in the same way that the other companions that he had had over the years had been, she wasn't insisting on anything, she wasn't putting up a fight or making a scene, demanding he explained everything to her.
"He did say that and I did change my face." he told her, a tone almost as low as her, although not for the same reasons, and she quickly understood it, she understood that it was not something he was willing to share in public where so many ears could hear their conversation, and it wasn't like didn't already know what he was going to say but more the fact that she wanted, would like him to tell her himself.
"He also said it was an improvement from your old face." she teased, changing the subject slightly, just enough for him to know that she didn't mind that he didn't spill everything right here and then on the table, and it was just enough for him to smile at her, so kindly and politely that it was rather unlike the semi-cold character he was with his companions. "I reckon it is as well, minus the dumbo ears." he told her, reaching up to his large earlobes and flicking them.
A small giggle tumbled from her lips as she saw him do that, and the Doctor could swear that to him it sounded like it was coated with the sound of twinkling stars, a sound he was also very much familiar, he clearly wasn't the only one who thought that because a few other people turned to them, or rather Mary with curious eyes.
"Well next time you change faces give me a heads up, I need a before and after selfie." she told him, shooting him a daring wink, one that caused unnecessary heat to flush to his cheeks and sent both his hearts into a hammering mess in his chest.
It didn't take long for Hemna to return, recipe paper in hand, his eyes were hopping from person to person to check if they were staring at him and were ready to steal his family recipe, until he reached the table, gently sliding it across the table to Mary, who promptly folded it and slipped it inside her front jean jacket pocket, patting lightly.
"Safe and sound, not even he will see it." she told the flying man with a kind smile, watching him relax completely while the Doctor rolled his eyes at her words, taking slight offence to but not that much knowing fully well that she would make them and that he would be able to eat them without having to visit.
"Don't make them too often, I want to see this one before he changes again." Hemna teases, winking at her as she chuckled slightly nodding her head at him, watching as the Doctor pouted from the corner of her eye, "Don't worry you won't have to wait too long to see us again." she promised, reaching across the table to pat his hand.
This seemed to please the coffee shop owner who shoots the Doctor a look, one that Mary wasn't accustomed to seeing but that had the Doctor averting his eyes from the two to the other side of the shop.
