Nightmares

I was in the dark when suddenly a shadow came before me. She turned into someone, Prim. She said to me, "It's all your fault, if you had protected me as you said, I would not be dead. But I should have known, you were never able to protect yourself so protecting me was impossible for you." After that, I remember the last time I saw Prim before the bombs arrived. The look she had.

Then she changed into another person, Finnick, who said to me, "If you hadn't saved me from Snow's genetic mutations, I would be happy with my wife and my son. But I died because of you. I can never know my son or even see him because of you ". I saw Finnick at his marriage, happy and fulfilled. I also saw the photo of his son that Annie had sent us.

The shadow changed to Rue. "If you had been there, I would never have been killed by the quarries. I died before your eyes and there was nothing you could do". I saw her lifeless body in my arms again.

I understood that the shadow was changing into the person that I loved, dead.

She changed into Johanna, "Because of you, I was tortured at the Capitol. While the mocking jay, the star, was protect, I had to fight for my survival".

I started to cry when she changed to Peeta. "I should have killed you at the Capitol. Snow managed to open my eyes, he's not the enemy, you are. If I stay with you today, it's out of pity. You have nothing, you are nothing."

I woke up with a start, tears running down my cheeks. Peeta immediately took me in his arms while I cried on his shoulder. He rocked me to try to calm myself down, which worked because after few minutes, I was calm.

"Are you okay ?" he asked me, visibly worried about the situation.

"Yeah, thanks."

"What was he talking about this time ?"

"I saw Prim, Finnick and Rue tell me it was my fault if they were dead, then I saw you and Johanna tell me it was my fault if you were tortured at the Capitol." I said, starting to cry again.

Peeta gently took my face and turned it over so he could look me in the eyes.

"It's not your fault that these people died, it's Snow and Coin's. It was because of him that Rue died at the Hunger Games, it was he who released the genetic mutations that killed Finnick and it was she who dropped the parachutes with the bombs on Capitol Square and kill Prim." he said smiling at me.

"Yeah you're right."

"And it's even thanks to you that I'm still alive. It was you who accepted the Coin's market in exchange for Johanna, Annie, Enobaria and I being delivered. We knew at the start of this war that we couldn't save everyone and that many would be killed, but you made sure that most people stayed alive."

"Thanks." I said smiling.

He kissed me and we went back to bed together. After this day, I never had nightmares again.
