Liam's POV
(Y/N) and I walk inside Steak 'N' Shake and wait to be seated. A woman walks up to us and smiles. "Hello, is there only two of you today?" "Yes," I answer, grinning. The woman nods and grabs two menus, leading us to a booth towards the right of the room. She sets the menus down on the table as (Y/N) and I sit down. "Thanks," I tell the woman. She grins and nods. "James will be your waiter today." "Okay, thanks," I nod and she does too, walking away.

I look over at (Y/N) and see her looking down at her menu, not glancing up. "Do you have any ideas on what you want?" I ask her. She doesn't look up, still looking at the menu. "No," she replies. I continue to watch her for a moment and then sigh quietly, looking down at my own menu. What have I done? Did I do something? I knew something was off. I try piecing the pieces together, but a guy walks up to our table. "Hello, I'm James, I'll be your server this afternoon."

I nod and place our drink orders. "Okay," he writes them down, "And what else will you have? Do you need a few more minutes?" "I think we need a few minutes." "Okay," he grins, "I'll be back soon, take your time." He walks away to check on another table. I look back at (Y/N) and see her glancing at the shakes on the menu. "Do you want a shake instead or to add?" "No," she says, still not making eye contact with me. "Okay, let me know if you want one, we can get shakes, it's not a problem." "Okay," she replies, still giving me one word answers.

"Here you are," James says as he sets our plates down in front of us. "Do you need anything else?" I look back at (Y/N) and she shakes her head. "No, thanks," she tells him, and begins to pick at her fries. "Okay, just call me over if you do," he tells us, heading back to another table. As (Y/N) starts to eat, I slowly pick up my food and occasionally glance over at her.

"Are you done?" I ask her. It had been a long twenty five minutes. It was filled with silence and occasional one word responses. "Yeah," she says, putting her napkin on her plate. "Do you want that shake still?" "I didn't want a shake." "I thought I saw you looking at them on the menu earlier," I say, pushing my plate to the side. "Well, now I don't want one." "(Y/N), c'mon, is this a money issue? I have enough money to buy two shakes." "This isn't about money, Liam," she gives me direct eye contact.

"Then what is it?" "It's not important." "Yes, it is. I can tell you're upset about something and I've been trying to figure out why ever since we got here." "Well obviously you haven't tried hard enough," she stands up, "I'm going to the bathroom." I watch her head down to the middle of the room, and disappear behind the bathroom door. "Fuck," I whisper. I hold my head in my hands and try to think. She was okay in the car, but once we got into the restaurant, her attitude had changed. Did it happen between the car and restaurant? Think Liam, think.

Your POV
I try to hold back tears as I wash my hands and look at myself in the mirror. Luckily no one else was in the women's bathroom. I dry my hands with the paper towel and use my finger to dry an eye. What the hell was that back there? It was our first ever fight, if you'd call that one a fight. I wanted him to know what was wrong, I really did, but he would have to figure it all out on his own. I take one last look in the mirror and take a deep breath. A moment later I grab the door handle and head back out there, to whatever it may be.

AN: Happy New Year everyone. I hope you have a great year and make the most out of it. x
