I've been awake in every state line
Dyin' to make it last us a lifetime
Tryin' to shake that it's all on an incline
Find me a way, I'll be yours in a landslide
...Lou's POV
I could feel my heart leaving my chest. Every step he took the more it shattered and left me. Who knew I was the one to be apathetic at the end of this all?
Somehow I managed to collapse to the ground once he left. Falling on my butt in the muddy and wet football field.
Something shiny laid in the view of my eyes. Placed down, around a single strand of green. I plucked the silver ring apart from the ground, and slipped it onto my finger.
It was loose and would surely fly off if I had my fingers pointing down. The thick and bulky ring with a detailed rose was one that I could never forget.
"What about this one?" I show Cassidy my phone with the image of a rose ring plastered on the screen.
"Woah! Where'd you find that one?" She gawks at it grabbing my phone from my hands and zooming in on the ring.
"I've always liked roses you know that Cass," I sigh, "Especially white ones. I know that my wedding would have them, and maybe one on my grave if I died." I shrug, tying my hair into a loose ponytail.
"I think he would love it! It's beautiful." She smiles and I pat her on the back.
"Glad I could help," I grin.
Mesmerized by the ring I twisted it around my finger, focusing my blurry vision on it. I never thought she was actually going to buy it because of how much it cost. A small smile crawls across my face as saltwater devours it when I start to cry again.
His words play over and over again like a song on a record player. A simple I love you can break my heart into a million pieces.
He left me.
He actually left me.
Never in a million years could I ever see myself dating someone like him. From the first time I met Daniel, I couldn't even see us being friends. And since I was dating him I couldn't imagine us breaking up.
Daniel had me every single moment. Whether we weren't together, friends or lovers. He had me every step he took.
And now...he's on his own. Parting ways still chills me. He's on his way to the airport starting a new life without me.
And me?
Well, I'm trying the hardest I can to fall out of this.
Anagapesis.
Falling out of love with someone...falling out of love with him.
In the next five minutes, I left the field running to the car. Kayla sitting in the front seat turning up the AC.
"So?" She smiles until her eyes scan my face.
"I tried," I swallow, my eyes watering again, "I tried so fucking hard."
Daniel's POV
"I love you, Daniel Seavey,"
"I could never stop loving you."
I left Campus about an hour ago. I'm supposed to arrive at the airport within ten minutes. I have had Lou's voicemail playing over and over again. Listening to every small detail in her voice. A break, a crack, a cry, a laugh.
I knew I had to be far away before hearing her voice. A simple I love you could change everything when I'm with her.
California is a sleep away and I'm still questioning my choice but I think this is for the better.
"This is for the better," I sigh, trying to convince myself...before everything flashes before my eyes.
My car is thrown in spins. Three rotations. Honking, fire, smoke, blood, bruises, broken bones...but most of all her voice. Her panicked voice.
"Oh my gosh, are you okay?"
