Sitting on the floor in my panties and bra, I shuffle through my suitcase looking for something to wear.
"Ariah, hurry up!" Charles yells while bursting into my room. I scream and snatch the pillow off the bed covering myself. He bursts out in uncontrollable laughter.
"Get out Charlie!"
"Girl, I used to change your diapers. Don't be so modest." He struggles out the door through fits of laughter. I throw the pillow at him on his way out and shut the door, ensuring that I lock it this time. Deciding on some denim 'mom' shorts and a white tank, I slip on some shoes and run downstairs.
Sliding into the front seat of the car, I buckle up and we are soon off down the road. "So, what do we have planned today little sisters?"
"Can we go to the little corner cafe that we always went to after church?" A smile creeps it's way onto my face.
"Ooh, the one with the chocolate croissants?" Jade perks you from the back seat and I nod excitedly before turning my attention back to Charlie with questioning eyes.
"Of course."
We arrive at the cafe and sit at one of the outside tables. Bliss sweeps over me as I watch the many people pass by. The waitress comes by and takes our order. I am sure to get an extra blueberry scone for my mother.
"Jade, how's school?" I direct my attention to her as she types away on her phone.
"It's great, my grades are really good. They're thinking about putting me in honor's classes. I'm not sure I want to be in them because Sasha and Kayla won't be with me. Even though they're not friends right now, but both of them are still my friends." I cock a questioning eyebrow towards Charlie who shrugs with an exaggerated eye roll.
"You should take the classes Jade. You guys will still be friends even if you're in different classes. You can still hang out after school and eat lunch together."
She appears to be thinking hard on what I've proposed and I laugh shaking my head away from her. The food comes and I note some writing on the napkin under the cup of coffee that Charlie ordered. I move suggestive eyes from him to the waitress and he lightly kicks me under table and I'm soon struggling to withhold my laughter. The waitress walks away and I lose all control.
"You're so annoying," I hear him say as he bites into his scone. I snatch the napkin and read it out loud.
Hope you don't think this is too forward.
He snatches it back and shoves it in his pocket while Jade and I snicker to each other childishly. "Are you going to call her, Charlie?" Jade asks.
"Ariah, you're a bad influence on her," Charles voices through what looks like embarrassment. I simply laugh and finish my tea and muffin. Once we all finish, Charles pays and we're on our way back to the house. I walk in behind Jade and find my mom in the kitchen taking some medication. I slowly slide the scone onto the table and make my way over to her. I pick up the tiny orange bottle and read the prescription.

"Mom." A growing sense of worry is taking place in my stomach.
"Oh honey, don't worry yourself. I just get chest pains here and there. That's all." She provides me with a reassuring smile.
"Ah, I see you brought me my favorite scone." She takes it up and begins eating.
Forcing my plaguing thoughts away, I try to enjoy the rest of the day with my beloved family.
