At around midnight my phone starts to ring from across the room. I'm so comfortable wrapped up with Xavier in his bed that I can't seem to find the energy to answer it, but when Xavier starts to stir in his sleep I let out a frustrated sigh and get up to grab it off of the dresser. My whole body stills once I see Logan's name flashing on the screen.
Why the hell is he calling me? At midnight? I haven't heard from him in two weeks. The last time we spoke he claimed he never wanted to see me again because it was too hard for him. Then again, Xavier told me this would happen. If someone loves you they always come back, right?
"Hello?" I whisper as my eyes dart to Xavier, who is still fast asleep. There's a bunch of music echoing in the background, so I pull the speaker slightly away from my ear. "Logan?"
"ELENA!" He screeches in glee, and it makes my heart drop. Oh no. He's drunk. "Thought I'd call you to see how life is."
I clear my throat when Xavier stirs again in the bed, popping one eye open to stare at me.
"Are you drunk?" I ask even though I know the answer.
"I mean, why the hell not? I can get drunk if I want to get drunk."
"You're right." I say. "Why did you call though?"
"Who is it?" Xavier whisper shouts. I mouth to him that it's Logan without actually saying his name, and that causes him to sit up in bed. He's definitely not tired anymore.
"Because I fucking miss you." He laughs loudly, and I know Xavier is hearing every word. I watch his face carefully and see his jaw clench before he lets out an irritated sigh.
"Aren't you the one that said you didn't want to be friends anymore with me?" I ask.
"I was stupid." He groans. "So, so, stupid. Fuck, I feel sick."
"Where are you?"
"Um..." he laughs, and suddenly I remember that we share our location with each other. When I pull it up, I see that he's only a few blocks from here. He's probably at a frat party of some sort. "I'm pretty sure I'm at that guy from the swim team's house. Is it Jared? Or Jacob?"
"Jesus, Logan." I bite on my lip and look at Xavier, who surprisingly gets up to change into a hoody and sweatpants.
"Come on." Xavier shakes his head, but I see him give me a tiny grin. "Let's go get him. We'll take Dion's car."
________
I spot him immediately sprawled out on the front lawn of this random house. There's red solo cups surrounding him in the grass, and he's staring up into the sky with a smile on his face, his phone still pressed to his ear. Does he even realize that I hung up?
"Logan." I nudge him with my foot to get him to look up at me. As soon as he sees me he grins widely, but it immediately vanishes when his gaze moves to Xavier.
"Of fucking course." He mumbles and closes his eyes, heaving a sigh. "You really had to bring him here? What? You wanted to rub it in more, Elena?"
"We're just trying to help you." I sink down to my knees on the grass next to him. "Come on, Logan. Lets get you back."
"You don't even know where I live." He sneers. "You never cared to come over to my room. I'm sure you see tons of Xavier's though, don't you?"
When I lock eyes with Logan I can just see how hurt he is. I know that he's upset, but it's not fair for him to throw comments like that in my face. I never wanted to hurt him and he knows that.
I don't know what to reply to him because I don't want to make him even more upset than he already is. Telling him that I'm still not into him in that way won't make the situation better.
