I feel bad for turning down Callum, but it's true. The noise and light of school is making my head pound like a second heart. I head to Music Makers Meeting.

"Rayla!" My new friend says. I smile faintly as she hugs me. "How's your head? Are you ok?"

"I'm fine, Alesa." I reassure her. "Just a little headachey."

She grins. "Rayla, can you do me a favor?"

"Sure." I reply. "What do you need me to do?"

"Can you be the DJ for the Spooks' Ball?" Alesa asks, her tawny eyes gleaming. "Please? I'd do it, except Shawn just asked me out!"

"That's great." I say. "Except... I'm not planning to go to Spooks' Ball. Callum asked me out, but I'm not going."

Alesa gives me the big pleading eyes. "Please? You'll wear headphones, so it won't be as loud."

I sigh, considering my options. "Fine, Ales. Just this once."

Alesa squealed, the sound sending sharp rings of pain through my skull. "Thanks, Rayla! That means so much to me!"

I smile. "Yeah, thanks, but can you tone down a bit?"

Alesa smiles and nods. "Oops, sorry."

When I come home, Runaan is waiting. "So, how was my patatas?"

I gag. "Those were potatoes?"

He looks offended. "Of course they were potatoes. What else would they be?"

I shrug. "Um, by the way, there's this thingy on Friday that I have to go to. It's at school. So..."

He raises an eyebrow at me. "So..."

"So can I go?" I ask. "I promised Alesa I'd go."

He hesitates. "Are you sure you're up to it?"

I nod. "Alesa said I can wear headphones."

He nods. "Fine. You may."

I head upstairs, but then I stop suddenly. Callum. He thinks I'm not going. He'll think I ditched him because I didn't want to go out with him. I'll have to make sure that he doesn't know that I'm DJ.

I feel slightly guilty, because it's like a lie. I'll make it up to him. Somehow. But this lie leaves me with a bad feeling, worse than the feeling I got when I are Runaan's potatoes.
