I'm sitting by the fire, pretending not to notice Ellis and Ezran whispering to each other. Those two are really cute, by the way. Callum's on the phone with Genelyn, and either he's pretending not to notice Rayla staring at him with a wistful expression, or he's really that dense. Knowing him, it's probably the latter.

"Yes, I know, Genelyn, but I can't help you. Yeah, I'm sorry. Uh-huh. Yes, I'll send your clothes. Uh-huh. Ok, see you at school." Callum hung up, flopping down on the couch with a sigh.

There was a crash from the hall, and Harrow gave a yell. Rayla went into the hall, returning with a coiled black wire, which she disappeared behind the couch with. She emerged with a shiny black... microphone? in her hand, tapping it experimentally. The speaker over the fireplace screeched.

"You're on the phone with your girlfriend
She's upset
She's going off about something that you said
'Cause she doesn't get your humor like I do."

Callum turned around in surprise, and Ellis and Ezran stopped whispering.

Was Rayla... Singing?

"I'm in my room
It's a typical Tuesday night
I'm listening to the kind of music she doesn't like
And she'll never know your story like I do." Rayla continued.

Wait, why was this weirdly fitting?

"But she wears short skirts
I wear T-shirts
She's cheer captain
And I'm on the bleachers
Dreaming about the day when you wake up
And find that what you're looking for has been here the whole time!"

Ez was laughing softly, and Ellis was whispering something to him again. I leaned towards her. "You know, I can see two pairs this might apply to." I whispered teasingly.

Ellis' face immediately turned bright red. "A-A-A..." She stammered, trying to rein in her feelings. Ez looked at her in confusion, having not heard my comment. Heh heh heh.

"If you can see I'm the one who understands you
Been here all along so why can't you see
You belong with me
You belong with me

Walkin' the streets with you and your worn-out jeans
I can't help thinking this is how it ought to be
Laughing on a park bench, thinking to myself
Hey isn't this easy..."

I leaned back, letting the fire warm me as I watched the two pairs of lovebirds.

"And you've got a smile that could light up this whole town
I haven't seen it in a while since she brought you down
You say you're fine
I know you better then that
Hey what you doing with a girl like that

She wears high heels
I wear sneakers
She's cheer captain and I'm on the bleachers
Dreaming about the day when you wake up
And find that what what you're looking for has been here the whole time

If you can see that I'm the one who understands you
Been here all along so why can't you see
You belong with me

If you can see that I'm the one who understands you
Been here all along so why can't you see
You belong with me

Standing by and waiting at your back door
All this time how could you not know
Baby, you belong with me
You belong with me

Oh, I remember you drivin' to my house in the middle of the night
I'm the one who makes you laugh
When you know you're about to cry
And I know your favorite songs
And you tell me about your dreams
I think I know where you belong
I think I know it's with me

Can't you see that I'm the one who understands you
Been here all along so why can't you see
You belong with me."

Callum started to say something, but then stopped. Rayla went on without looking at him.

"Standing by and waiting at your back door
All this time
How could you not know
Baby you belong with me
You belong with me

You belong with me
Have you ever thought just maybe
You belong with me
You belong with me."

She dropped the microphone, and Ez put his hand over Ellis'. It was a small gesture, barely noticeable, but it made her blush all the same.

"I have two eyes, you know." I reminded Ellis and Ezran. Ellis yelped, stuttering the start of my name again. She really did get flustered easily. It was cute.

"Wait, do you really think that, Rayla?" Callum asked.

Rayla shrugged. "Maybe I do."

Just then, there was a smash of glass breaking in large quantities. We all rushed out to the hall to see. The chandelier was broken on the floor and Aunt Amaya in the middle of it. Apparently the adults had gotten a lil' bit drunk.

We made sure that no blood was shed, then another crash sounded from the living room. We rushed back to find Derek with the Christmas tree pulled over on him. Gifts were scattered across the floor.

"What were you doing?!" Callum asked, pulling him up.

"Nothing." Derek said, but I could tell he was lying, Elran too.

About what?
