Callum and I charge each other, screaming. He swings his fist towards my face, but I easily duck and kick him. He flies over my head, yelling. I jump up immediately, my ponytail accidentally whacking Genelyn in the face. She shrieks. I snort. All the things she does to me and she shrieks at that?
Callum recovers quickly, and he swings at me, running forward. I slip past every move, my hands behind my back. Then he hits a tree and yelps, and I hear a sickening crunch. I freak out, and I run to help him. "Callum? Are you ok?" I ask worriedly.
He doesn't move, and for a second time seems to stop. Then his fist flies into my face, and I stumble back with a yell. My lip is bleeding, but so is his fist. He snarls. "You're a two-sided liar."
"Says the guy who double-crossed his best friend." I snap back. The effect is like snapping a rubber band across his face, his eyes widen with hurt. I don't care. He doesn't, so why should I?
He narrows his eyes. "You were never my friend. You're a bully. You just hurt others. Out of jealously. And anger." He pants.
My eyes widen in shock. "I-I would never hurt others like that!" I protest.
"Yes you would." He growls. I can't take this. It's starting to rain. Genelyn's already run away. Within a few seconds, the rain is pouring, booming claps of thunder punctuating the staccato of lightning. It's a storm, and we're in the middle of it.
Then I remember something. Racing through the forest after a man, holding two blades and determined to kill him. Jumping into a ditch. Holding my blades to his throat, his eyes, so frightened, so scared, and as lightning flashed, I let him go.
And as lightning flashes again, I let Callum go. He runs through the rain, and I run after him, but we slip and end up sprawled in the grass, our faces next to each other. He jumps up immediately, running to the school buildings, but I don't get up.
Instead, I lie in the grass, looking up into the sky as the rain pelts the ground, stinging drops racing to earth.
Callum holding a ball of pure storm in the palm of his hand.
The ball, smashing into earth.
An explosion.
Panic. Falling. Flying. Holding on.
An egg. A dragon.
I jolt up with a start. How long have I been lying here? The storm is stronger now, the wind howling, the lightning dancing wildly across the sky to the beat of the thunder and the pounding rain.
There's no lights. The electrical system must be down. People are screaming. They're calling. Oh. I hear my name being called, the voices panicked. I get up slowly and walk towards them.
"Rayla! Rayla!" Alesa calls. Then she sees me. "Where were you? C'mon, get under the umbrella! You were outside in the storm for three hours!"
I freeze. "Three?" I ask.
Alesa nods, pulling out one of the teacher's walkie talkies. "Ellis, Ezran, found her." She says. Seeing my look, she quickly explains. "After the teachers realized you were missing, they let us go out. We're stuck in school. No electricity, and the road outside is flooded."She
"What?!?!" I exclaim. "Oh, no!"
Ellis and Ezran join us. Both have umbrellas, and as soon as the rain isn't hitting us I realize I'm soaked to the bone. I shiver as we run inside the school.

After a while, we're all sitting in the nurse's office. Alesa, Ellis, and Ezran attack me with questions.
"Why weren't you going in with Callum?"
"Where were you?"
"Why in the world did you stay out for three hours?!?!"
I don't know what to answer first, so I just ask what's on the top of my head. "Why is there a storm?"
Everyone freezes. I'm right. We just learned in home room that the weather is clear for the next few days. No storms in sight. But... This isn't a storm. It's a hurricane.
And we're trapped in the middle of it.
