Jungkook || Sunday, June 7
I don't know how to react as I look at Nari in shock; I'm still processing the words that she said. Did she just confess? I should've known; I should've seen this coming. Especially after she almost kissed me last night. Besides, I've always known that she had a thing for me, I just didn't think she was going to confess right at this moment. I don't know what to say as I watch her face turn red and she swears softly before biting onto her lower lip nervously. She looks ashamed as her shoulders hunch and she looks down at her bowl of ramen that she barely touched.
I continue to just stare at her with my mouth hung open and she giggles awkwardly as she lets her long hair cover her face like a curtain.
"I mean why wouldn't I like you?" she says and brushes her hair away from her face as she looks at me. "You're my friend."
I blink and she laughs. Her expression is slightly pained and embarrassed as she begins slurping on the ramen. Her cheeks are red as she eats with a frown on her face.
"Nari," I say with a sigh and she pauses from stuffing herself with noodles.
She looks up at me with a forced grin, "Hm?"
I ruffle my hair and rest my arms on the table as I look into her dark brown eyes, "Are you sure you just see me as a friend?"
She laughs awkwardly and puts down her chopsticks, "Yeah, of course."
She looks uncomfortable as she squirms in her seat and giggles nervously as she avoids eye contact with me. I want her to tell me exactly how she feels, but I also don't want to push her and make things weird between us. Yet, I wish that she could just open up to me without feeling so uneasy. I want her to trust me. I want her to face her feelings head-on and stop hiding them from me.
"Don't try to fool me, your expression says it all," I say and she looks surprised. "I know what you meant."
She lets out a light chuckle and says anxiously, "What do you mean?"
"Let's be mature and honest about this," I say with seriousness and she gulps nervously.
"I uh... I..." she stops giggling as she looks at me and bites down on her lip.
"You like me..." I utter simply and she becomes tense under my gaze. "As more than a friend."
She heaves in a deep sigh and closes her eyes before opening them back up and looking at me. I stare into her eyes and wait for her answer, but she keeps quiet. Her lips twitch and she gulps.
"I... I..." she's hesitant as she mutters softly and sighs in defeat before admitting her true feelings. "You're right..."
"But I understand if you don't feel the same way," she adds quickly before I can open my mouth to say anything. "Don't worry, I won't be upset and I won't avoid you. Just forget that I ever said anything. I'll be fine. I mean I'll be a little sad, but I can go through the heartbreak. I'm a lot more upset about my sister..."
"Nari!" I become impatient and interrupt her before she rambles more. "Please stop talking."
She instantly goes quiet and looks at me shyly.
To be completely honest, she's right. I can't reciprocate her feelings. At least, not right now. I still love Yuri. I want to tell her that I don't see her in the way that she sees me, but I also don't want to hurt her.
"Are you sure your feelings for me are genuine?" I ask and she looks confused. "Are you sure you're not just using this as an excuse to recover from the pain of losing your sister? That you're not using me as an escape from hurting? Do you really see me as someone who can be more to you?"
