Almost Is Never Enough

Finn felt like hell walking towards the make-up trailer that morning. Each bone in his body ached as he moved like a robot, breathing heavily like a dying man.

He didn't look much better either. It took Sarah longer to cover up the bags under his eyes than to fix his hair up for Mike. He has got to stop staying up all night. This was getting way out of hand. If talking to Millie is what he needs to do to be able to sleep properly, then so be it, he'll talk to her.

The whole day of filming was the same for him, very draining. Neither coffee nor the energy drink he had, had helped him. He went from scene to scene, from take to take, almost mechanically, yawning in between each and every single one of them. He even fell asleep on his chair whilst they were all looking over the footage they'd just done, not even noticing the noise around him.

It got to the point where Shawn had no choice but to tell him to go to his trailer and rest. There was no sense in him being on set when he was unable to give it his all. Despite all of his protests, Shawn had convinced him to leave, saying they'll just start earlier tomorrow with him and add him to the scenes he would miss today. It would work just fine because it's all group scenes with the kids and teens running around from place to place, gathering information. Nothing that stands out, so editing him into those scenes wouldn't be too complicated.

As soon as he got back to the trailer, he called his mom to let her know he would be staying the night because of the early morning shoots he'll have to do. He didn't let the conversation drag on for too long because he was in real need of sleep and also, because he didn't want her to question his behavior since he wasn't really in the mood to explain himself to anyone.

Dressed in his own clothes, having changed into his black baggy shorts and a simple white tee right after he got off his phone call, Finn was sleeping on the couch for who knows how long when he heard some shuffling and mumbling around him.

'You need to work on your whispering skills, Mills', he said groggily, his eyes still closed.

'Shit, sorry!', she hissed, looking towards him from the kitchen area her and Noah were stood in. They had gotten in several minutes ago and gathered around the small kitchen isle, munching on the pizza they had stolen from the set.

'Yeah, man, sorry', Noah added before taking another bite from his piece.

'Oh, you're here too', said Finn opening his eyes, squinting a bit until he adjusted to the light.

'Yeah... Caleb and Sadie are coming soon too', Millie explained after she was done chewing, 'Gaten has a scene with Joe so he's staying on set'.

Finn nodded in understanding and got up, absently stretching his muscles as he walked to the bathroom. By the time he closed the bathroom door, his mind reminded him once again of Millie's reaction to that 'move' just over a year ago, making him wonder if she looked just as dazed right now as she did back then.

He didn't have much of a chance to dwell on that since the scene he got out of the bathroom to, took him completely by surprise. Millie was sitting on a little armchair holding Noah's phone up, whilst Noah was doing some dumb dance behind her.

'What's going on?', he asked carefully, wondering how they got to that point in a matter of minutes it took him to pee and wash his hands.

'We're doing a TikTok live on Noah's channel', Millie replied as if it was just as normal as breathing.

Finn simply nodded his head, already eyeing the door, thinking of ways to get out of this situation. But before he could do that, Noah, who had just leaned his head over Millie's one to check the comments, said cockily, 'They're all asking for you Finnlard'.
