MONSERRAT
"Condolence, Monsy." Manolo tapped my shoulder. I gave him a smile of assurance. "I know Tita Mariclaire is now in a good place."
I nodded from what he said. I am very sure she is. She's been a good woman.
"Is Sage fine?" Manolo asked. Sage has been seating in front dumfoundedly. This is the last day of Mom's funeral.
It's not easy to accept someone's death.
"She'll be fine." I said.
I like hearing these kind of words. It proves that Mom is really indeed a good person.
"Why don't you take a rest anak?" Dad offered me a seat. I looked at his face. Parang mas tumanda si Daddy ngayon. Maybe because of too much work and stress.
"Have you had your checkup Dad? The last time you visit your Doctor, he says your blood sugar is too low." I don't want to lost him too after Mom.
"Don't worry about me. I am taking my vitamins at nakabisita na rin ako sa ospital. Common, take a seat." Aniya.
"You take a seat, Dad."
I looked at Sage who's still seating in front. She's been staring at Mom's coffin. The girl beside her rise from her seat. I walk towards her.
"Are you, okay?" Tanong ko. She looked at me dumbfoundedly. Naupo ako sa tabi niya.
"I will, soon." She said honestly. My heart hurts whenever I looked at her now. She looks so devastated. Mom failed her mission, huh?
"I guess Mom is so disappointed right now." I said. Binigyan niya ako nang makahulugang tingin.
"What do you mean?" She said.
"You're crying a lot. Her goal is to not let you shed too much tears on her death." Sinimangutan niya ako.
"And you think she can really do that? Kahit bugbugin niya pa ako sa puder niya, I'll still cry at her funeral." She said.
I stared at her. Her eyes looked so sad. I suddenly want to hug her tight for a comfort, at least. I want her to feel alive and forget the pain without erasing Mom in her heart.
"You cried too, aren't you?" Biglaan niyang tanong. I smirked hearing what she said.
"Do I look like I cried?" I asked. Napairap siya.
"You don't look good either." Aniya.
"I didn't cry, but a small tear escaped from my eye." I said joking.
"Wow ha." She laugh from what I said. "Sana all strong."
Nawala ang ngiti ko. "And when did you learned saying that words?" I said confused.
Her lips rose into a smirk. "Do you know my friend on that fast food store? I learned this from her." She said.
Napangiti ako sinabi niya. I like hearing her saying that she have friends. "I am happy to hear you considering others as your friend." I said. Napataas naman ang kilay ko sa kanya.
"Really? Then you're fine with Winston, then?" She said smirking. Nawala tuloy ang ngiti ko.
"Of course not. Only girl friends are allowed." I said.
