Theo's pov
I stepped off my bed and brushed a piece of hair out of my eyes, the floor board creaked as I stepped on it. As I walked downstairs I thought about how great last night had went, my feather had handeled the situation so well. As I approached the kitchen I smelt something, the smell of blueberries and warm pancakes drifted from the kitchen. I walked inside the kitchen to see my dad in his robe frying up some pancakes.
"Good morning dad." I say as I approach our small table. "Hey sweetie you going shopping with Phillip later today?" He asks as he flips a golden brown pancake. "Yeah, we should only be gone for a couple hours." I respond as I pull orange juice carton out of our fridge. "Ok, sweetie just be safe." He said as he placed a pancake on my plate and placed it in my hand. "You took the news of me and Phillip dating way better then I thought you would." I say as I take a bite of my pancake. My dad walked towards me and said "I just want you to be happy, love is complicated sometimes." He ruffles my hair as he passes me and pulls out a chair across from me. "Kinda like how you met mom was complicated." I say quietly. "Our love story was complicated but it turned out ok didn't it." He wiped a tear off his cheek and grabbed the bottle of sticky maple syrup off the center of the table. I smile at him and then finish the rest of my pancake.
I went upstairs and had a shower, and got changed into a pair of grey sweatpants and a light yellow shirt. My phone vibrated and buzzed as I placed a clean white sock on my foot. I finished putting on my socks then grabbed my phone off my nightstand.
Phillip: meet me in front of my house in 30 minutes then we can head to the mall.
Theo: I'll be there.
Phillip: ok, see you then.
I put my phone in my back pocket and then went to the bathroom. I combed my hair till it had smoothed out a bit, I brushed my teeth then grabbed my purse. I walked downstairs and waved to my father before heading out the door. The sun was super bright, I stood there for a couple seconds letting my eyes adjust to the blinding light, the birds chirped in the daylight as the happily flew around my neighbourhood. I stepped off my porch and started the short walk to Phillips house. My purse bumping against my leg as I walked. After a couple minutes of walking I arrived at Phillips house, he stood by his mother's grey mini van. His blue vest had a light shine in the sun, his light blue jeans helped pull the whole outfit together.
"You ready to go Phillip?" I ask as I approached the passenger side of the car. "Yeah I'm ready to go." Phillip responded. I hopped in the car and started buckling my seatbelt, my hair was in the way so I pushed it behind my shoulder. Phillip stepped in the driver's seat and buckled his seat belt, I saw him adjust his seat so his feet could reach the petels. He slowly pulled out of his driveway, as I relaxed in my seat. I looked out the passenger window and watched as the house seemed to fly by. Phillip turned on the radio, I memory of listening to the radio with my father as a child popped into my head, I used to stand on his feet as we danced around are kitchen. My mother would sit and watch as I giggled and danced, he would scoop me up and throw him over my shoulder and then carry me upstairs to bed. The song changed and I heard a familiar song start to play it was, party times by Lilly Grey, my mom used to sing this song to me as child. I felt the tears well up in my eyes and I wished she was still here, I saw Phillip glance at me out of the corner of his eyes. I knew he knew about how much this song meant to her, I had told him about it on a field trip when we were both sophomores. I hopped my head to the beat as a vision of my mom flooded my thoughts, her dark curly brown hair fell around her shoulders kinda like my hair, her light brownish pink lips and small brown nose helped Define her personality. She was always smiling and helping people out, thats partly why my father fell for him. They met one night while my father was a soldier in the war, my mother's husband was on the British side in Georgia, my mother was left all alone she let soldiers stay in here house. Her house was a refuge for American soldiers and one night my father was looking for a place to stay and my mother offered him a room and a nice warm meal little did they know they would fall in love and get married a couple years later and then have me. Just then the song ended Im hadn't even realized that I had been singing the lyrics under my breath.
