Phillips pov
The blazing sun shined through my window, I sat up and rubbed my eyes. I felt a smile grow as I thought about Theo and how im gonna ask her to marry me. I pushed the thought away as I quickly got dressed I had to get to Burr's to ask him, I was lucky I had convinced Angie to help get Theo out of the house. As I skipped down the stairs I could feel my heartbeat speed up today was the day, hopefully he says yes and im not......im marrying her anyways. I noticed Angie's shoes were already gone as I arrived at my door, she must be with Theo already. I quickly put on my shoes waved goodbye to my brother and headed out the door.
The sun hit me straight in the eyes, it was so hot out but that was normal for a June day where I lived. I started the walk to Theo's help thinking over what I was going to say to her dad, a piece of me was worried and that worry was only growing larger like a monster digging away at me. I tried my best to push it away and focus on the journey ahead, focusing on each step I took.
I arrived at her door no more then 5 minutes later, I took a deep breath as I prepared to knock. I knocked on the door and a couple seconds later Burr's face peeked out. "Oh hello Phillip, Theo's not home right now" he said with a smile on his face. "Actually I came to talk to you sir mind if I come in" I tried my best to sound as polite as possible. "Sure go right ahead" he told me.
As I stepped inside I could feel my heart begin to race this was it no more stalling. "What do you wanna talk about kiddo" he asked with a small chuckle. I can do this I thought to myself, "its about me and your daughter sir" my voice shaky as I spoke. "What did you do?" His voice seemed hostile as he asked and his smile was suddenly gone. "I did nothing its just...." I panicked. "Its just what?" He asked with a serious tone. "I want to ask her to marry me, on her birthday" I did it, I felt a wave of relief flood over me, my heartbeat slowing the tiniest bit. "Okay, I have some questions first before I give you my blessing" his voice was softer now it made me feel safe. "Okay I can answer them" I responded. "Will you ever hurt her?" He asked me. "No of course not sir, I love her id never hurt her" the question caught me off guard, did he really think I'd ever hurt the love of my life. "Will you always be there for her no matter what?" He asked as he shifted in his chair. "Yes ill be there for her no matter what don't worry sir?". "Will you make sure my little baby's safe and happy for eternity?" I could see tears form in his eyes as he spoke they now shined like the stars as the light reflected off of them. "I promise I will". I watched as a smile spread across his face, he stood up and stepped towards me. "You have my blessing you can marry her".
I felt like a giant weight had been lifted off my shoulders, my breathing became calm once more and I could feel myself smile. "Thank you sir" I said, I felt his arms wrap around me. "You take good care of her for me". "I will" I replied. "Okay good now, you better be off you have a lot to set up if you want to propose next week." He said as he slowly let go of me. "Okay thank you sir." I said as I walked to the door.
Theo's Pov:
I waved goodbye to my dad who stood upon our porch, I ran towards Angie who stood on the sidewalk a couple house down from where I lived. "Hey Angie". I said as I reached my bestfriend.
"Hi Theo". She said enthusiastically. "So why'd you ask me to meet you here today?" I asked with a smirk. "Oh you know...just missed hanging out with my bestfriend.." Angie said trying to act all confident. "What are you hiding from me?" I asked curiously. "Oh nothing, now come on lets go get some ice cream." Angie said as she tried to district me from whatever she's hiding. "Fine, but I still wanna know what your hiding." I told her as we started walking. "You'll know soon don't worry." She said as she looked back and worked at me.
We walked into the familiar town not much later, I noticed Angie slow her pace and she took time to look at all the shops displays. The ice cream shop was not far now only a block away, I used to go there with my mom when I was little every Sunday. Angie and I continued walking until we reached the ice cream shop door, I pushed it open for me and Angie to go through. We both walked up to the cashier and got our ice cream and then sat at one of the light pink tables near the window.
Angie dug onto her cookies and cream ice cream right away and then glanced out the window. We watched as the towns people walked by going in and out of stores. Mothers doing their weekly grocery shopping, kids running into toy stores after seeing the bright colored displays. I took a scoop of my chocolate ice cream and looked up at Angie. "So your really not gonna tell me why you brought me here?" I gave a little soft smile hoping it break her and make her give in and tell me. "Nope." She said as she giggled. "Come on please." I begged. "I can't I promised I wouldn't have you home till later." She said nervously. "Who? And why?" I was intrigued now I wanted to know everything. "Come on Theo you know I can't say that it would ruin the surprise." She said trying to make me stop pestering her. "Okay I get it but hopefully this surprise is soon I hate being left in the dark." I said as I took another scoop of ice cream. "You won't have to wait long." She said as she took the last scoop of ice cream from her bowl. "Wait so when can you bring me home?" I asked her. "In an hour". She replied after glancing at her watch. "Wanna go to the park well we wait?" I asked her. "Sure." She replied
We arrived at the park no more then ten minutes later, we sat down on one of the many oak wooden benches. I sat there thinking about what the surprise could be all I knew is that someone must be going to my house and couldn't have me there well they did what they needed to do. It had to be Phillip hiding something cause Angie was with me and who else would be going to my house. But what was really bothering me is what he was doing, what was he hiding from me. I tried to think of anything that could explain, any clues I could think of to maybe figure out what he was up to. Nothing came to me though and after a while any tapped my shoulder and informed me it was time to head home.
The rest of the night was normal but when I tried to sleep all I could think about was the surprise what could it be. This is why I wasn't a big fan of surprises I hated the mystery, the night seemed to pass by so quickly as I layer there unable to sleep. Though after a while I did fall asleep but it was nearly 3 am by the time I did.
