Blake

In three days, everything will go bad, bad, bad. I can't eat, I can't drink, I can't think. It's too late to go back. Mom won't let me go back. I'll ask her again.

-Mom? - I yell at the top of my lungs even though she's right beside me on the couch patiently reading the manual.

-Blake! You know I'm not deaf. I'm a little old but... What honey, what is it? - a look of concern and affection on her face. It makes me feel nauseated. Why does she wear her real emotions on her skin like that?

-The weather, it's finally getting sunny. Like you promised... And I'm... - How do I say scared without seeming even more whiney? - Super worried for the draught these people have been having. They need the rain more than anyone. I could be the thing that makes this place habitable.

-You can't avoid who you are, who you are becoming. Embrace it. This town is the perfect place for a future keeper like yourself. You'll learn to stay out of their way and just let the natural weather charge you and then focus on-

-Focus on growing my inner universe. I know, I know. You read that thing so much you actually recite it. - Mom makes a frown but as usual it doesn't last long.

-You can't avoid it. You'll be the best keeper this desert has ever had and you'll grow even more magical places within yourself. The magnetism this place has is undeniable. It barely rains here. The people consider it a bad omen when it does. And studies conducted here in the 70's actually show that it's true. Gosh, I love humanity. They do a great job with how little control over even their own lives they have. - It makes me sad when she says things like this. I don't think she loves humanity at all. I think she likes humans like a giant would love a tiny butterfly. She sees universes within universes, she's raised seven other keeper children or mini universes. I'm her eight, which should mean I'm her last as she is far too old to stay. - I got a call from the school. You didn't handle your powers correctly. That is normal. I made sure to use my privileges to get rid of the situation. - I sigh and walk out the room. I hear Mom yell so I can still hear her. - I'll be gone soon but you'll be on your way to be the best keeper the world has ever seen! I love you!

Being a teenager sucks. You go through changes and you have dreams bigger than anything in the world and of course your parents have different dreams for you. When I was little I remember making my friends laugh with my powers and sometimes being pushed around by bullies but it seemed to me like I could still just be a normal kid, who makes rainstorms happen and has sometimes glowing skin. But as I got older my training has carefully guided me to be closer and closer to turning this human body into a combustive state where a whole new universe starts within me. And I'll keep the place I'm assigned to safe and the universe within me too. That's always been the plan. Even before the atoms that make me were assigned together. Even before my mother was in existence. But I don't think I want anything more than to lead a whole human life, fully. I'd love to be memorized by peers and loved by my human family. I don't want to be something so dramatically important as a whole universe.
