Truth

-Blake, Blake where are you going? Class is starting in two minutes. - Jane is following Blake as he is rapidly pacing across the corridor.

-I just need to wash my face. - Blake answers in a harsh tone. He pauses and realizes he has made a mistake. He tries again using more gentle wording. - I'm sorry. I'm not feeling too great, okay? - Jane nods and signals for him to go. As he's walking away still looking back at Jane he bumps into a group of people.

-Look who it is. - Blake looks up at the people talking to him and he sees Angela Jenkins smiling a wicked smile. Next to her is Steve who was at Liam's pool party.

-Leave him alone, Angela. You wouldn't want to be mean to him. - Jane steps in.

-Oh, I'm going to do worse than mean. I'm going to state some truths. - Blake flinches at that. Even though he's a tall and built guy it seems as though he's used to taking abuse like this and not standing his ground. - I'm not scared of you Jane or of your freaky friend. I know the truth.

-And what would that be, Angela? - Jane says, daring Angela. A small crowd has formed around them.

-First of all, it's been raining nonstop since you got here. - Jane laughs at that. If that were all Angela had on Blake, it was ridiculous. Blake is still very tense. - Second, bad things come from rain around here and what happens a week into you being here? Liam Peters hosts a party where you are invited and he ends up almost dead. - People react to this and the crowd start getting bigger.

-There was nothing I could do... He slipped... - Blake says very quietly. It doesn't do much to gain the crowd back as he is so unconfident about it.

-And get this everyone. - Angela says louder so that everyone can hear. - Liam was the main character in the school play. Now he will be in a coma for who knows how long and guess who wants to be the main character instead? - She pauses for dramatical purposes. The crowd goes wild.

-You don't know that. - Jane says, not missing a beat.

-Oh, I have my sources. - Angela keeps going. - Blake Evans will be the one substituting Liam's part.

-You're just pulling things out of your butt, Angela. Just stop before you hurt anyone any more. - Jane says with disbelief.

-Oh, but there's more everyone! - Angela's face is turning red and she's gesticulating all sorts of ways, making her look even more insane. - Steve, tell them what you saw. - Steve has now all of the attention on him and he's nervous. He starts speaking.

-On Saturday, after we pulled Liam out of the pool, Blake Evans skin started glowing. - As he finishes saying that the bell rings and everyone disperses except for Angela, Jane and Blake.

-You mostly hurt yourself by saying ridiculous things like this, Angela. - Jane says, a small bit of kindness still in her voice. And she walks to class with Blake and leaves Angela behind.

Jane and Blake are sitting side by side in class. Blake slips her a note.

"thank you :)"

Jane slips him a note back. After that they spend most of the class slipping notes to each other.

"do you remember seeing it?"

Jane sees this note and she knows exactly what it means but she asks to make sure.

"see what?"

"the orange glow"

Jane looks over at him and nods.
