-There's no way. There's no way. Jane I'm begging you. I only joined theater club because of you, because I like to hang out with the people I know well, he is a stranger, an acquaintance at best. There's no way.

-I can do it. Do you want that? You can say whatever you want about you only being in theater because of me but you and I both know you love being the main character. - I breathe, sometimes I wish I didn't have to make decisions.

-Okay. Okay, I'll do it. - Jane makes a victory dance. - But no tongue.

-Who do you take me for? - Liam asks a bit flushed. He's the type of person who blushes when holding hands.

-Let's keep going people! Hannah's and Liam's characters are now an item as it gives more substance to the play. - Jane tells everyone.

.

Liam and I are about to kiss as someone enters the stage and interrupts.

-Hello, I'm Blake Evans, I'm new. Can I apply for a part?

-Hi. It's called an audition and yes just sit there while we rehearse and in the end you can show us what you've got. - Jane answers in a very polite tone even though I know she's still angry about his conduct the day before.

-Do you have to practice that? The kissing?

-Good question. Can we skip it? - I quickly agree with the new guy but immediately after the words have left my mouth I feel angry with myself. Jane rolls her eyes and gives up.

-Okay, just say your lines after the kiss. - she says with an annoyed tone.

.

After theater we sometimes hang out in a café outside of school, we order expressos and eat pastries while we talk about the current state of the world and other topics that we can't really speak about with other people at school outside our group. We haven't had anyone new for months because we are already in June. Jane is feeling uncomfortable about both options of inviting and not inviting the new guy but the rest of the group take over and invite him to which he excitedly says yes.

-So Blake, have you heard about how special the rain was yesterday?

-Huh, I heard some people mention it. Right the day I get here. - he laughs awkwardly. A lot of eyes are on him. There's a strange tension in the air.

-But it's not like he's the antichrist. New people come to town all the time, he just happened to come on a special day. No big deal. Right? - I look around after saying this, half smiling but also feeling a bit unconfident.

-So why did you do that yesterday Blake? You're a show off, a bit of a clown perhaps? - I choke on my croissant. Jane is going in on the new guy. She's the sweetest girl but when someone is disrespectful she will not take it.

-I had to make an impression, and the teacher is my mom. - Everyone looks confused. - She moved schools and I moved with her.

-Why did she have to change schools this time of the year? If you don't mind me asking. - Liam asked, speaking for the curiosity of the whole group. Blake's face that had been stuck in a huge grin the whole time switched and his demeanor got very serious.

-Last school burned down.
