The One To Save You || Luke Hemmings

Prologue:

"Mom, just listen to me!" I shouted at her.

"I don't have to listen to shit." she laughed, a drunken slur in her voice.

Ever since dad died 6 years ago when I was 10, mom comes home every night more and more drunk as the days go on. We live in a small apartment in Melbourne, Australia.

"Mom!" I yelled louder, tears threatening to spill. "When was the last time we had a normal conversation?!"

She knew she had no answer, but she tried to think of something anyway.

"I don't care. I don't even love you anyway!" she told me.

Well that hurt.

Trust me, over the past couple of years, my mom has said mean things, and even hit me, but never has she told me she didn't love me.

I just looked at her. All she did was laugh. I felt the tears running down my face.

I ran.

I ran straight out of the house and down the block, not knowing where to go.

I called a cab and told the driver to keep driving because I'd think of a location soon.

I told him to drive me to Sydney.

I was still crying, and I fell asleep crying, knowing the 9 hour drive was going to feel like a long one...
